Happy new year to all my fellow Esatonians.

Guess what, one person is still yet to enjoy new year and still living in 2011. He is our newly wedded mod, tranced. After few hours, he will join us in 2012.

Always a tradition for us in the house. My dad always goes out the back door of the house and walks around through the garden and the entry way. Then he comes back through the front door. Its what he always called letting the old air out the back of the house and the new year in the front door. He always got through the front door by midnight. My tradition was playing New Years Day by U2

good song but I guess being older, mine is from a slightly earlier era... Happy New Year!

I actually like that song!! And by the way my parents when I was growing up used to play Abba on the old record player with the 2nd record dropping down off a magnet after first one finished playing. Amazing mechanics!! I am old enough to remember Abba at No.1 with Super Trouper

you were lucky! my parents (well, my mum) played Demis Rousos, Nana Mouskouri and Barbara Streisand most of the time but fortunately I developed my own taste in music... though now that I think of it I quite like My friend the wind, and Forever and Ever, and My Only Fascination and The White Rose of Athens and Memories and... hang on... oh dear!

Abba had a lot of great songs

Nana Mouskouri my parents did aswell the Greek singer My dad was always playing & singing to Perry Como but is more a classical man now. Them record players were great though or gramaphones Makes you think how far technology has come now we are in 2012!!!!!

I have a friend that still swears by record players and won't buy CD's if he can help it.

Mind you, his main record player has a concrete base for stabilisation and so weighs a ton, and cost over £1000 so he is a true believer in vinyl!

Yes my dad too his cost £1,300 with an £80 stylus He gets records from charity shops Most purists say CD's are compressed sounding

bit off topic now but there's so much about using vinyl such as keeping the weight and balance of the arm and stylus pressure correct so as not to prematurely wear the vinyl etc etc.

I just dunno if I can be bothered with all that.

still (getting back on topic) with the enthusiasm of a true audiophile, such records will be able to be listened to for many New Years to come

Yes,& before back to topic I just went over to Face Book & my brother had just posted that song by Abba. How spooky

Spooky? Just wait till you hear Wham and realize it's almost Christmas again

Still have my very old Garrard turntable. And several vinyls of course. The turntable is the one with a parallelogram arm so that the stylus (Shure) is always parallel to the groove.
Anyway, a wonderful Year 2012 to all of you.
