hi all...
I joined this forum in 2007 when i was searching for a cellphone. Now i'm again searching for one. But this time i'm confused as hell with all the new phones and technology (dual-core cellphones, really?
). Add to that a gazillion of choices to select from.
I'm particularly interested in buying a touch screen phone and i've no idea what to look for. I've looked at SE Arc series and its also very confusing as there are too many models to choose from.
PLEASE HELP!!!!
(BTW, i currently have SE W810i)

First of all, don't expect a new touchscreen smartphone to last as long as your W810i did, they're not nearly as robust. And the battery life is disappointing, might even be as low as 1-2 days, depending on how you use it. The large touchscreens use most of the energy, but the faster processors and the apps still active in the background take their toll aswell.
Still, a touchscreen smartphone can be a good companion, useful and fun, when chosen carefully. Most are good, but none of them is perfect (though fanboys will tell you theirs is
), so you'll need to decide, what's important to you.
Calling, texting, email and internet, pictures, video, music, games ?

hi marley.
my W810i is still working pretty well and does the things that i want, that is calling, texting and sometimes listening to music and taking pics. For internet, i use my desktop & laptop all the time and haven't really used this feature on W810i except for once (i.e. today
).
So, i don't really need a very hi-fi type of cellfone
I was thinking of buying SE Experia Arc but then i though why spend so much money on a cellfone when i'll not use most of the features and i guess some of them might not even be available here in Pakistan.
Looking forward for some suggestions....

Well, I don't have the Arc, so I can't say anything about it, but several people here have it, and/or the other models of the 2011 Xperia line-up, like the Neo or the newer, smaller Ray, so they'll be able to give you some useful advice.

@ sinnersaint - What are you looking for in a device? Maybe if you can answer the following questions people might be in a position to help better:
1. How important is the screen size? 4"?
2. Are you fussed about the weight of the phone? Do you have maximum weight it should be?
3. What are your expectations in terms of battery life? At least 2 days?
4. You mentioned that you want a touchscreen phone but does it also have to have a physical kepboard or are you looking full touchscreen?
5. Do you have a preferred brand? Manufacturer?
6. Do you have a preferred OS?
7. How much of a tecchie are you? Do you want to tinker around with your device or do you prefer to do minimum tinkering around and want it working out of the box?
8. You mentioned that you hardly use your current device to go online - do you see yourself wanting to change this?
9. Are you big on social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn? How much time do you spend on them?
10. How important is a camera on a phone to you?
I will stop there, lest you think this is an inquisition!

I would highly recommend the Xperia ray. Unless the 4" screen is essential to how you intend to use the phone, I find the convenience and size of the ray more appealing.
I'm quite happy with mine, and chose it over the Arc and even the Galaxy S2. Not because of performance, but because of how I use the phone. I usually split my tasks, and a large screen phone doesn't cut it for heavy duty stuff, I end up pulling out my tablet or laptop. So my setup is more specific. More users prefer the all-in-one approach and use their phones for watching movies, and using their phone as their primary music player. Since, I use an iPod Touch for my music, and an iPad for my movies..my phone is primarily for communications only: email, internet, facebook, twitter, viber, kik, etc... I have a few songs to keep me busy and a couple of movies but not like a full playlist
The Xperia Mini Pro is the other I would recommend, based on my experience with it's older sibling the X10 Mini Pro. I was quite happy with that little thing when I got it, and I trying the new one out is leaps and bounds better. I do miss the keyboard on my Mini Pro now that I've switched to the ray, but Swype and Voice Actions have taken up the slack, so I'm ok without the keyboard.

If you want something simple, fast, thats great for music, taking pics, occassional web browsing, and is "current" with a touchscreen then i would highly recommend you look at the Apple iPhone4 8GB: http://www.gsmarena.com/apple_iphone_4-3275.php it should be cheaper now that the iPhone4S is out, if you want something new and realy future proof then i'd say go all out and treat yourself to the iPhone4S 64GB: http://www.gsmarena.com/apple_iphone_4s-4212.php i think the iPhone will suit you better than the Arc. Hope that helps.

i think it depends on usage? but it should atleast run one full day

this confuses me, is it good to have a physical keyboard as well? i read that if there is a physical keyboard, then the size and weight would increase. But if the virtual keyboard can do sms quickly, then i don't need a physical keyboard

not really, samsung, SE..any would do, but it should last me longer.

maybe but even if i do not much as i'm online most of the time with my laptop/desktop. i don't want to become a 24/7 slave of internet

i use fb but not addicted to it

You should go for SAMSUNG GALAXY FIT S5670. It's has 5 megapixel camera with a resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels with big screen. The phone weighs just 108.2 grams. This phone is in your budget also.

Nowadays none of the phones have a good flash(like xenon) and good battery. I have my C905 its camera is still the best and excellent battery life. Always the pics from xenon flash are better than a normal LED flash.
Just waiting for SE to launch a killer phone with xenon flash.
