I am very sad. Will we see this year's high-end Walkman. Please tell if you have information.

There was a time when cellphones was either a music player mobile or a camera mobile and all kind of specialist feature.
Today a smartphone is what you make it to, with apps/programs, more or less.

I have never owned any SE Walkman mobiles. Still think my X10 Mini with the payed version PowerAMP app and Spotify client/player (needs a premium account costs about $15 USD)
Will give the W995 a match.

I am using the X10 Mini as music player. At work, in the car, home with a Samsung SBH650 Bluetooth Stereoheadset.
Although at home just connecting to the 3.5mm cable into the phones (always left in the Amplifiers Aux2 port)

Have a look at the Xperia Arc or any of those upcoming models they are not Walkmans but with proper software, they will deliver what you want.

The PowerAMP is an amazing piece of music player that have that doesn't lack much of what a computer player have.

There are more phones like the mids and lows that won't really be headline grabbing but remember, there are supposedly two WP7 devices on 'ice' for the minute. An Android Walkman is on the cards which may be low end but I don't know....

In my opinion, should not stop something with a long tradition. For me, Walkman phones from class are the most beautiful thing. I am a music lover and I love Sony Ericsson. Why do not wish to make a high-end Walkman or incorporate it in other high-end smartphones. And what a beautiful and sleek Walkman can produce ...

The last high-end walkman they released was the w995. That was about 2 years ago.

Well really, what I've always thought, is that when walkman phones were big there was actually no difference in music quality compared with other SE phones at the time, (e.g. the K850i's music player was on par with W910i walkman player, and the C905i with the W995i etc.) the only difference was that they had walkman branding, and had a walkman short cut button (and some had music controls). The only time there was ever a difference was when SE realised W980i with 'A clear audio experience'. However I believe that they've tired the walkman and cyber-shot branding. There are still low-end walkman phones e.g. Zylo and Spiro, but these are just to fill the (now small) market share of java based phones. I don't believe they'll ever make a high-end walkman phone, with the likes of the arc it just wouldn't make sense.

Sorry man, but I think it's time to say goodbye to walkman.

Never say goodbye to the Walkman

And who speaks for Java.

I mean really for platinum Walkman, which can surpass the Xperia. We are talking about something big. Walkman smartphone with a very beautiful Walkman interface imposed on Android. With glowing orange hardware music keys and a metal diypad and many multimedia (HD recording, Flash, 8 MP) and an amazing sound:

MH907, Clear Bass, Clear Stereo, S-Master, DSEE

Such a phone can surpass many Xperia.

Everything listed there (bar the music keys) is found in the Xperia X10, arc, Xperia play and Hallon. Any other 3rd party media player app can be download for extra features.

Walkman is just the branding! and they have clearly given up on it! Move on!

Last ones we seen were of the budget type Zylo and Spiro. They have not really pushed it since cos the Xperia range was supposed to be the new breed of all in one devices. You can no longer call them just phones

Besides my X10 Mini I also got a J20i Hazel.
It's in my eyes a smartphone in disguise.

Even though the music player in it can't compare with the PowerAMP bought and installed in the X10 Mini. It for sure kick the h**l out of that music player that was pre-installed in the X10 Mini.
I guess there is quite a lot of Walkman technology baked into the Hazel

Right now the Hazel is without a SIM-card and back in it's box. As the SIM-card is used in my latest toy the T28 (a phone that came already 1999).
Sure I love it but I don't cry because I can't buy me similar phones new.

The T28 is a definitive passed chapter but a new Walkman phone might still appear one day...

Besides the Spiro and Zylo there is a third, the Yendo a touch screen Walkman phone.

Aino has similar Walkman functions to the W910i. It does not have a dedicated W button but player is easily accessed via touch menu. It also have shake-shuffle but no shake-skip. In music department I had no problem switching over.

I owned a W995 which is the king of the crop where Walkman phones are concerned before owning an X10. The X10 music player is the worst player I've owned in a while with super limited features (no eq of any kind, no playlist, sounds dreadful muffled, etc). But then there was the app called Poweramp with all imaginable features that would put even the dedicated Walkman to shame (imagine unlimited custom eq memory) and the sound is better than anything you've ever heard on a CD player, I kid you not. Walkman is just a brand name, easily rivaled by good software developers.

Yes, a fellow PowerAMP user, great. Love you long time

Besides the that player there are other, some still in beta
like MortPlayer and Cube. working on all Xperias

If it weren't for the M2? memory card (I got several mSD unused).
I would buy me W995 for a glance of the Walkmans hey days.

Yendo was the last phone but it's crap

Posted by rikken
Crap is way above Yendo SE should keep us walkman fans alive by making a new top performer

Posted by Bonovox
Yes the Walkman brand being tossed down to the cheap end is not good

Clown?
At the time I wrote that there was not a box in sight.
I would be very happy with a branded :android:
It has to get a wonderful dedicated chip set, a 600mhz processor only won't be enough.

I have also read about the alleged W15 walkman phone from SE on an article on timtechs a few days ago and I was hoping to see how the phone would look like but the only picture there is was a box with a W15 label. I hope to see a photo of the phone soon
