Doesn't seem to be abating and some estimates say it could be months before things return to normal, with millions trapped away from home.
Although some airports have the choice of opening in Northern Europe they are taking a risk.

yeah! I've heard that news. Too sorry to hear that the UK is suffering for such disaster and many air travellers including South London's Libera are stranded in other countries (they came from Manila BTW, they're stranded on Athens).

This is all way over the top. They showed on ITV News today the volcano was throwing out ash NOT upwards into the air but it was falling to the ground IN Iceland. The last one erupted for 2 years nothing happened then. They did a test flight for 2 hours yesterday British Airways & it landed fine. What's the problem? You can fly to Ireland cos they don't fly above a certain height anyway as it ain't far. Millions wasted for nothing & people stranded for nothing.

Have you personaly seen/studied the effect ash can have on a turbine engine? I have and it is not at all worth the risk. Ok a couple of planes have flown, but it only takes one to hit a "dirty" bit of air to cause major damage.

I am not saying that & no I have studied that but I still think in most parts of Europe we have over reacted to it because already plenty of test flights have been done with big jumbo jets & for 2 hours at a time. They landed safely so why yes I do think we over reacted.

I wouldn't say they have over reacted at all, I on a plane pretty much 16 to 20 times a year (long haul) and you realise how easy it is for anything to make those hunks of metal jerk out of the sky.

And why did the Icelandic volcano erupt? Is it not the natural continuation of the chemtrails plot? Our leaders must have jumped all at the same time, placed on a carefully chosen semi-circle centered on Iceland. That's what started the eruption.

While passenger airliners fly at altitudes above the ash cloud, they pass through it during take off and landing... and if a plane were to attempt an emergency landing due to mechanical failure, it will obviously pass through the ash cloud, and this could be for a prolonged period, resulting in even greater damage.
Risking hundreds of lives in the air, and hundreds more on the ground, is unacceptable. Nobody overreacted.

When this volcano erupted for 2 years it was in 1821, I doubt many airlines would have been affected then.
A lot of the ash that was being ejected was falling to the ground but the smaller particles stayed in the air which is what made it to the UK. The Finnish air force reported that one of its F18 fighters was quite badly affected by the ash.
If NATS had allowed all flights to go ahead and planes had been affected then people would have said whay didnt they stop flights. Its a no win situation.

it seems Irish airspace will be closed again from 0600 to 1200 tomorrow. Uk airspace will be reviewed overnight but no plans for closure at this point

Apparently it's going to close more airports over parts of Europe again. But Sky news has had evidence found that not one airline has had any contamination of their engines
