Faster ripping software help!

I need some advice. I recently got a Dell pc but the DVD drive is slow when ripping CD's to the hard drive. What's wrong? Is it the disc drive or using Windows Media Player that's slow? Does anyone know or can give me a link to some possible software or downloadable player for WindowsXP that can make ripping music faster? Thanks.

It depends of the drive speed, connection and software. If the drive is ATA you won't get fast speeds. If the drive burns at slow speeds you can't push it a bit faster because of this limitation. A SATA drive would do it faster as its data speed transfer is up to 300mb/s. A software I would recommend is Roxio.

Ok thanks. Well strangely one or two discs ripped fast but nearly all so slow its like watching paint dry. Thank god multi tasking was invented on a pc cos i would go insane otherwise. Perhaps the answer is a better drive in the long run

Make sure the board supports sata drives.

Yeah check the max speed it supports and check settings to see if rip speed is capped

Are you ripping them as exact copys images .vob's, or does your ripping software convert them to .avi's, if its re-encoding them then thats whats taking the time.

Well i just wack them in the pc and start ripping using Windows Media Player. I have the settings at fastests and at wma @ 128kbits or whatever the term is.

I misread and thought you were copying dvds, ive never used windows media for ripping cds i don't think its the best choice, i use Exact audio copy its freeware just google it and give it a go also 128 wma, is the worst possible format , use at least 256kbps mp3 or flac.
