Hmmm 6.1.
The proto had 6.5 Win Mob onboard. I believe the final unit will have 6.5 when released.
Maybe Microsoft restrictions prevented to publish it before the official announcement. And why before MWC. Maybe Toshiba will have another device for MWC as was originally planned???
I think Toshiba got scared from the HTC devices planned for MWC announcement
Btw camara should have 3.2 Mpix with wvga video rec. This info is from the proto unit but not sure for final one.

I'm sorry, but colourful stripes aren't exactly my thing.
Posted by masseur
its windows mobile so I'm sure this is just sitting ontop like touchflo, or panels etc... you'll still be able to use it with the standard WM interface

You can modify the color of the strips like you want. They can be all in one color too.

Good news, hope this would startle the rest of the competition and push them to make better products.

O2 Germany announces exclusivity on Toshiba TG01 (msmobiles)
Posted by shug
Snapdragon is an excellent processor but like megapixels in cameras megahertz isn't everything. Running WM I bet this is slower and a bigger battery drainer than for ex. the omnia hd with s60 and 800mhz.
Posted by masseur
anyone heard any more about this?
all the usual sites seem to have gone very quiet about the TG01
Posted by Tsepz_GP
Isnt that always the case with most of these WM devices, loads of hype when announced then it all goes quiet and almost forgotten like that other WM with a 800mhz CPU.
Posted by masseur
yippeee!
Toshiba TG01 with gigantic 4.1 inch display goes on sale in 2 weeks (msmobiles)
O2 Germany (a small operator owned by Spanish Telefonica) has just announced today, that Samsung Galaxy Android phone (with 3.5mm stereo miniplug - unlike HTC phones!) and Windows Mobile powered Toshiba TG01, will go on on sale "in the middle of June" i.e. roughly in 2 weeks!
Posted by masseur
and now, o2 UK will be getting the TG01 next week!

"However we are disappointed that it doesn't have 3.5 mm stereo miniplug..."
Why do they build such obvious flaws into these phones...

looks like Orange will be making this available on payg

well, thats typical of web pages posted before announcements... watch this space!
edit: however

Thanks
really looking forward to trying this one out however i would have prefered it on 02 rather than Orange

Yeh could be right, although they don't sound too certain there! Considering O2 have sealed exclusivity for the Palm Pre, there's no loyalty to keeping the iPhone as their top of the range smartphone.
What's clear is Orange don't seem to have any form of exclusivity deal with this, and O2 Germany have this model so people are assuming O2 UK will pick it up too. But assumption is the mother of all f*ck ups as they say so i guess as @masseur said 'watch this space!'

Hmm I don't think that video told me anything of what the phone can do...
But it did put some pretty disturbing pictures of weird people dancing and men with crazy mustaches into my head. So that's ok right?
Posted by masseur
lol, fair enough!... how about this?
Orange make it official - Toshiba TG01 exclusive
that page also has another video showing off the TG01 a bit better, which you can also watch directly here
Posted by dainesefreak
Oddly enough I was wondering what happened to this. I thought it was due for an official release today, but it's disappeared from the Coming Soon section and isn't in either the Monthly or PAYG sections either. Perhaps it's due any minute then!??
I hope that Tosh have decent Firmware support because anyone buying this from Orange will be desperate to get rid of the Orange firmware if the i8910 is anything to go by.
Posted by voda_jon
engadget have just announced that orange have advised they have UK exclusivity on this and it will be launched tomorrow and in stores tomorrow!
Its free on a 24mth £39 exc vat contract!

I have that WM OS on my Omnia, and TBH, after Android and Iphone i have zero desire to stump up for another WM device

thats nice... any actual feedback or comments about this device?

Very nice and Toshiba are very reliable company
Posted by amnesia
just got back from Tokyo and played with one, it feels awesome.
Posted by floatlite
Picked one up yesterday, the hardware is beautifully made and great materials used. Everything is all great, until the usual grit bears with WM 6.1 show themselves, Toshiba have done a good job with their UI over skin, but underneath its the same old story.
I got it as it official supports the full 6.5 release when its out, so that will perk things up a bit with luck.
