Stutter whilst playing music

I've had my Xperia for a few weeks now and I've not had any problems with it, however recently I've been using it to listen to mp3s and I've noticed every few minutes it skips, like pressing pause and then play again really quick.

Although it sounds like a minor problem it is incredibly annoying, it happens using the 'media panel', 'windows media player' and the app I use most ofter 'pocketplayer'. It doesn't matter where the audio files are stored, card or phone and it doesn't matter what format is used it still skips.

The skipping itself only occurs after about 4-5 minutes and I use wired headphones. There are no apps running in the background and according to task manager memory in use is 40%.

Has anybody else noticed this problem? And is there anything that can be done to stop it. I really hope I don't have a faulty unit because other that this skipping the phone has been running perfectly. Any help is appreciated.
