If my cellphone is in silent mode it doesn´t ring in the morning. This has to be the more stupid thing I ever seen. My old W800 had no such problem, it ringed even when it was turned off.
Is this the default operation or a bug?
Thanks

Yep. That is the most stupid aspect of UIQ since the first P series. You have to keep the phone on and make sure it's on ring and not silent.
Really silly!

- You people drive me potty

Hereis the P1i volume control screen for example...

If you can't manage to keep your UIQ3 phone quiet whilst allowing only alarm - you shouldn't be allowed to have a SMARTPHONE!

You have 4 separate volume controls - how much more control can you ask for??? - and an every-sound-off option for church, cinema, business meetings etc...

Personally it would make me crazy if my phone alarm could still go off once I selected 'SILENT' mode!!!

You have your preferences and other people have theirs. Why do you have to come across as if your preference is above others?

I don't use the ring option on my phones, always have them on vibrate- PERSONAL PREFERENCE! S60 doesn't have that "problem" but UIQ does. I would like my alarm even when the phone is off or on vibrate like A200 or "dumb" phones and that doesn't mean those that differ with me are out of their minds!

So that's not you coming across as your prefences are the only ones that matter then???

Not at all. The whole objective of the alarm system is to wake you up. It is silly from SE that UIQ phones don't go off when they are off or only on vibrate.
It is an oversight that should have been addressed.

That is bizarre - why should my phone alarm work when it is on silent - let alone OFF - how can you get away from the thing - do you have to remove the battery??? - do you want the alarm to wake you even with the battery out????

SE have provided a perfect control system in that you can turn off all sounds except alarm, you can put the phone on flight mode to staop all calls and messages. If you want an alarm clock on - why on earth would you turn it OFF

And the whole objective of the ring tone is not to alert you when the phone rings? Same with sms tone? Weird.

Just mute the ring/sms tone when you go to bed and you'll be fine. Not as easy as with most other phones but it's the best you can do right now

Or put it in flight mode - touch signal strength icon and then touch flight mode selector... easy...

Top left corner icon has option to select the volume control interface - easy peasy

Unfortunately, with UIQ switching the phone on silent disables the alarm. I have the P910i and now using the P1. They both work the same.

This goes back to what I wrote earlier, your preferences.
SE should give us the options instead of giving us the only option. I pointed out that I don't use my phone's ringtone. So, while this arrangement suits just fine it doesn't suit a lot of us as well.

I think SWMail is working on that one... http://101swmail010.googlepages.com/uiq3mods

I think 'Flight Mode' is supposed to be as it says... To cut out all transmissions so that the phone will not interfere with any equipment in aircraft, hospitals etc whilst leaving the PDA/ games functions etc available- but since there are alot of other uses having some customisation of the settings would handy...

It's just amazing how many people nowadays refuse to turn off their phones though - even in hospitals...
