what do you think is the best se camera phone? is there any phone that "has it all"? and i mean mostly hardware features like xenon flash and lens protection, not software ones like bestpic or face detection. i'm searching for a successor to my k750i.

looks as if K850i is the one, but K810i has been outstanding too

K850!

the quality that k850 gives isn't that uch better then k810 imo. And you can change camdriver on k810 too.
Posted by bavlondon2
I think K810 or K800. Ok K850 is most megapixels but performance wise its shoddy. Too many megapixels in too small a sensor.
Posted by number1
k800 or K810, & modded camdriver. gives the best pics your gonna get from a phone.
Posted by F-Lexx
Well, IMO, the only real good thing that K850i has against K800i camera-wise is the presence of the two LEDs along the xenon flash, for filming at night and the filming at QVGA, 30 fps. That's a great feature. However, the build quality of K850i is crap, in my opinion. Glossy surface, no external camera protection, dust gets on the lens and worst, the lack of a play/pause button... So I'm thinking of buying a K800i and modding it with K810i firmware.
I was thinking of the C702, but it lacks a xenon flash, and the low focal distance doesn't sound so good, I'm anxious to see it in reviews.

i have a k800i flashed to k810, i don't really want to buy a new phone this year, the c702 also lacks loads of camera options and is missing 1mm off the focal length, i am thinking about buying a k850 but i don't want 5megapixels, lack of a lens cover is a serious issue i'm pretty sure i'll scratch the lens to hell or even brake it without a cover, and my most loved and most used play/pause button is missing.

K770 as it uses Samsung camera module and doesn't have noise reduction

just got a k850i and traded my k800i for it, 2 weeks ago.. so far, i can say that i like the color reproduction of the k800 more (maybe thats because i always used modded camdriver, like ultimate's vivid and number one's driver)....on k850i the colours are just plain "real" colours.. BUT the reproduction of details, which are far away (like in landscape pics), is in my opinion better with the k850i...also lowlight shots without flash are a bit better.. the biggest improvement is definitely when taking pics with flash!.. while the flash pics taken with k800i, even with the newest modded drivers, came out somehow "waterpainted".. on k850i they look sharp and "real" very near to a stand-alone digicam..also the flash is stronger than in k800i, so group photos with many ppl in a dark area are finally possible.. on the negative i've to say, that the twilight landscape mode isn't that good... it's too dark and colours aren't reproduced as well as on modded-k800i.. i REALLY hope, that sometimes soon k850i will be hacked, so that someone will mod it's camdriver.. while at the same time i've to say the STANDARD K850i camdriver is much much better than the STANDARD K800i driver.. sony-ericsson have definetely improved in that department and did a good job. only minor tweaks are needed to unleash the full potential of the k850i's camera..

My main disliking of the K850 (besides number1's point about the lense cover and play button) is the purple fringing of photos.
For that reason I'm inclined to stick with my K800 for now.

probably k800/k810, but only because it has a more mature cam driver

Because I wanted people's opinion on the issue. SE has quite a large number of phones with decent cameras, for example only one person mentioned about the K770i. And since I never owned any SE phone but my K750i, I wanted some opinions from people who actually own newer camera phones.
And I only said that I'm currently thinking of buying K800i because it got really cheap, but I'm going to wait a few weeks or a month more, mybe SE announces something revolutionary.

F-Lexx,
i was totally smitten by the w900i which my sister bought & i decided to buy 1 for myself.
at that time i had just bought a n70 & thought of waiting for a while so that the w900i got a little more cheaper.
guess what? when i finally did go to buy 1 the w900i was sold out & supposedly discontinued.
i so regret my decision of waiting.

I still think that the K800 is the best imaging phone from SE.

Camera modules(hardwear) and drivers(softwear) are completely identical, there`s no difference.

but in K810i driver are newer than K800i, or not? Than I have bad read..

last stock camdriver is version 2.5...

There is no yes or no answer to this question. It's open to debate, therefore people are debating it. It's no mystery, that's what forums are about: discussion

k850 imho... most of the people say that k800/k810 is better coz of the modified camdrivers.. modded camdrivers are already enhanced to produce good picture.. but with k850, it produces good-great pics even the camdriver its using is the original one. once k850's file system is accessible thru the new version of X++, im sure it's pictures will be brilliant coz by then we can upload modified camdrivers..
Posted by Coquito
I had k790-k810 and k850
k850 was the best in camera with its original camdriver...espcially flash pictures
k810 was very good too with modded camdriver...but the flash is very weak

Personally the major faults of the k850i means I'd rather have the k800i with slightly less features that works all the time and is rock solid, than a k850i which isn't.
I'm quite impressed with the k770i thought, but seeing as it's pretty much the same price as the k800i, I can't see what the point of it is!

How strong is K800i's xenon flash? Some say it's weak, some say it's really ok. I'd like an opinion from k800i owners...
Posted by sadeghi85
IMO K770 has the best pixel quality but it lacks xenon flash and some other features. K800/K810 with modded camdrivers are the best ATM, but i guess as soon as K850 can be modded it'll be the best.

Assuming it's identical to K810's flash, it can light up a whole room in full darkness.

for me it was "OK"... well party pics in darker rooms or in clubs seemed a bit too dark sometimes.. the flash in k850i is stronger.

I dont Know if this two pics can be "Comparable" but is just to see how the xenon works on night pictures
I know they are at different times and differente places...
also k810 picture wes taken more close to the Couple.
k810i (modded camdriver UCD 6.2)
k850
From my experience I can say k850 is much better for night pictures..
I can show more pictures if you want...

Unless there is a lot of light in a room, K850 is better. Lower iso on flash pictures, clearer and sharper than K800/K810.
Posted by F-Lexx
Thanks for all the photos... Yeah, it's pretty clear that the K850i has better flash quality. And the photos are becoming pretty good, also.
Gotta make up my mind, either spend a pretty small amount of money (less than I've spent on the K750i two years ago) on the K800i and an M2 card, and use it with its own headset, since it has a play/pause button, or spend more than twice that sum on a K850i and buy an M2 card and better headset, to get the play/pause button...

For me, the best SE camera phone at the moment is K770i. I've tested K550i, K850i, K770i and I own K800i, so I can surely say that K770i is the best among the Cyber-shot line up simply because photos taken with K770i don't have that awful ''watercolor'' effect!
Since you've been talking about xenon flashes in K800i/K810 & K850i here's my advice. K800i has weaker flash than K850i, but they both produce watercolor effect. I remember how good K750i + MXE-60 was.
I get pretty good low light & night flash photos with my K800i, but with UCD 2.44.
All samples taken with Twilight portrait + RER flash!
Some examples:
But they still can't beat my K750i(CID 49) + MXE-60 night photos. They even beat K850i flash photos when it comes to ''watercolor efect'', noise & colors!
(All taken with original K750i cam driver + MXE-60 external xenon flash) :

agree with salih
k770 have the best picture quality, and k800 and k850 cant beat k750+extrenal flash in term of picture quality and colors.

the water colour of hte K800 is a real let down - it was the only thing that really disappointed me about the K800.
K750 + MXE is definately better, and even the K750 with only it's own light is better at close range than K800. Not to mention macro. The K800 flash drowns out detail on macro shots where the K750 light is just perfect. Not only that on macro shots the K800 focus beam is so bright it reflects strongly off the subject preventing the camera from focussing properly. I've found to focus macro's I usually have to put my finger over the focus-assist beam when focussing.

My K800 flash doesn't drown out details - it actually works very very well. In my experience the K850 flash tends to overblow everything, not the K800. Still, even using the flash, the K800/K850 keeps the camera running at ISO 400, causing the noise reduction to kick into overdrive. The result? The smears or "water painting" effect that everyone describes it as.
I prefer a bit of chromatic noise in my shots which I can easily remove on my PC, rather than the camera attempting to smear that noise away so I can't see it anymore. After all, there is no way to get that detail back once its been smeared away.

@max_wedge - I totally agree with you!

with auto settings i get best pics with my k810, BUT if i "preload" my k850 with proper settings i get easily best quality with k850.
he he he. some of you guys who says that k800 have stronger flash then K850....are you for real ?
K850 flash is much better then k800/k810 week flash. it produce sharper & better colors at longer distance. (only times i get good flash pics with my k800 & k810 was on Macro)
k850 flash. distance ca 3m
K850 flash. distance ca 2m
k850 flash. distance ca 1m
k850 flash. distance ca 20cm
