New P1i FW coming out in the next couple of weeks. I already have it on mine

Phone: CXC162037 R9K009
Bluetooth: CXC162143 R1D
Organizer: CXC162108 R6G04
CDA: CDA162022/1 R6G02

All discussions about it here. I'll post any new findings as soon as I have a lookaround.

How come u already have it ? Or why ?

Posted by pt020
and is it better? in what?

Posted by nelshh
My first impression is that it seems to be considerably faster, but I don't know whether this has to do with the firmware itself or due to the 'ol "complete re-install" of the whole telephone.

Posted by gadgetboytom
This the one with profiles in the CP?

Posted by pt020
i would like to know more about the camera, cos when i updated my phone to CXC 162037 R9H004 it got much faster and most of the green tint was gone but not the magenta.

Posted by dagrim1
Interesting, hope it'll be out soon...

Not many complaints wrt the phone atm btw... But speed increase is always a good thing and perhaps some more improvements in the camera or something?

Keeping an eye out!

Got it aswell, and the first impressions is as henkeee said, its ALOT faster!

love it so far!

Here's a screenshot of my "Status"-screen:

Posted by kchris
When I check the state of my phone that comes out:
Phone:
CXC162037 R9J005 R9G007
prgCXC162037_CCPU_HE_LL_NI
BT:
CXC162143 R1C
Organizer:
CXC162156 R6F41
CXC162108 R6D23
CDA:
CDA162024/74 R10A
CDA162022/2 R6D22

What do that doubled versions mean? Should I update my CDA version and run a FW upgrade?

Green tint seems to still be there:

When connecting a USB-cable, the standard checkboxes for USB-charging and "Show when connecting" has been moved to the "More"-tab.

@henkeee
what about the camera sw??

Posted by shwicf
could you please find out how fast is the camera's autofocus? my R9J005 took 2-3 seconds to focus that i stopped using the camera.

Posted by nelshh
Camera SW seems to be the same, I'm also sensing that the autofocus is a bit faster, but then again, I might be mistaking myself.

Jesus, they didn't fix the slow camera refresh...Why do I have a feeling that almost nothing will be fixed...

ok thanks for that!

@kchris

It seems as if you've recently changed your cda to WG2.

Reflash your phone via SEUS and the second lines with your old cda details should disappear.

You cannot get it yet, unfortunatley you have to wait a few more weeks!

but hold on, so far i could not find any major differences from R9J005

Maybe they have fixed the bugs related to Voice Control. I didn't have the opportunity to test the new FW yet.
Too bad for green tint issue on photos,it is not fixed.

@Samuelelel, henkeee

Any news in Opera? I read somewhere that a Full view (original formatting, zoomed out) might be available?

Is the messaging application faster with less redraws of the screen and re-read of the inbox list content?

You would have gotten used to it if you had a P990

Posted by jalf
try to update....and still have the last firmware

Posted by ***CoNDoR***
One thing that i don't like about my phone is,

while using Opera *even with 128mb memory, compared to p990i* sometimes i get "phone restarted to improve performance". I hope they've fixed it.

And also, i really want a faster camera refresh because you have to stand like a statue (also people you take pictures of) for a long time... I don't care about white balance :D

And if i get a missed call or a message, alarms don't work till i check those...

SE, fix those

Yes. And there's sometimes the "out of memory" errors.

Great. I missed that one, too. Please go write in the wiki

Can someone with this new firmware find out if WPA-Personal works yet?

I'm a bit miffed that I can't use my own WLAN access at home! (Got WEP working, but that's not a solution! Also, my router doesn't support WPA2).

Question to those who has already installed new firmware:
I wonder if reactivity of SMS UI has been improved.

In SMS app, when I open a message (or exit message with back button) the app screens flicker several times showing different sms app screens. Soemtimes each screen flickers twice.
Extremely annoying .

Is it the same on new firmware?

TIA

I think the camera problems (green tint and af slowness) are more hardware based (or very low level microcode in the camera controller) and won't be fixable by firmware.

To gte aroudn the camera problem, I leave the focus mode (key 4) set to infinity. It will then snap straight away, but of course this isn't any good for stuff closer than a metre or two... For most generic outdoor snaps it's fine though.

Posted by kchris
what have they changed in this new FW? the version number?

Posted by ChrisR5
Can't wait to get this firmware on my P1i

Posted by G-Izzat
Someone from my-symbian.com said that the new FW R9K009 will be available in few days/weeks and it will also bring better photo quality (photos are brighter), faster phone UI reactions, faster auto-focusing in camera mode...

Posted by DarkKrypt
@G-Izzat
lets hope so mate:) it would be good to see more fixes in many ways more then none

i don't know what problem you're encountering, but WPA-personal works just fine on my P1

Yes, mate. Make sure you've backed up everything using the PC Suite first.

Posted by giantfly
well, here's the first bug in the new FW:

In the camera mode, when "4" on the keyboard is pressed, it should change the image focusing mode, i.e. macro, infinity, e.t.c. It does the job, but the icon remains the same, so you have to guess what mode you're in. After the picture is taken, the right icon sometimes appears...

I hope SE changes the FW on the SEUS site, because this bug makes the camera barely usable...

cheers...

Posted by G-Izzat
Yeah, the '4' bug is there, but camera focuses a bit faster this time and I also noticed that night mode does seem to work much better.

Posted by giantfly
true, better camera speed, and way better night mode, however, in the preview window, the picture displayed is with worse quality. I guess that is done on purpose to make display faster and snappier. I can live with it, but, SE, please fix the 4 bug...
