I have turned off all the Three internet settings and have made the RSS feed for Home Network only. This is on a K850i with Three. However the dam thing still manages to connect and I end up secretly racking up a data bill. I want it to ONLY use my home internet when I plug it in via usb. Somebody help!
The option for Local Download Only in the RSS options is greyed out! Is this some kind of scam by Three?

As long as you stay with the "3" operator, this is not a problem, since that internet traffic is "free" or the price for it is built-in into the monthly fixed fee. But if you manage to unlock the phone without debranding it, it may become expensive to use it with another operator. That is one of many reasons why you shouldn't buy operator branded or operator locked phones, even though they may seem les sexpensive at a first glance.
BTW, the globe does not indicate traffic, it indicates that you are connected, "online", and the charging made by most operators is based upon traffic and not connection time.

Browsing is not free with Three. I'm talking about using Opera Mini, Google Maps mobile, and the built in RSS feed on the k850i. I have so far been charged £5.30 for what I thought was data sent through the USB connection. I want to disable 3's internet aka 3G. Or rather disable it for certain applications, but when I try this for RSS the option is greyed out. Any ideas?

Obviously, "3" has different pricing policies in differnt countries. But the fact that the earth icon is displayed at top of the screen does not necessarily mean that there is traffic, only that you are connected.
Disabling "3G" will not disable the internet access. The 3G icon shows that you are using a "3G" or UMTS network. The alternative is a 2G network, i.e. the traditional GSM network. The internet access is available there also, only that the speed is lower.
I think that the internet connection is deeply burnt in into the 3 branding of the firmware, 3 uses it to display ads on your phone's standby screen, they use it whenever you start the 3 media player that has replaced
's own media player in 3 branded mobiles, and of course it uses it for MSN access and for other gizmos they have added to the original software. The onlt way to get rid of it, I think, is to unlock and debrand the phone. Considering the extra amount of work required, the possible loss of the warranty, etc, I believe that it is better to pay the small extra amount of money and buy an unbranded phone from start. (A complete deprand sometimes requires a replacement of the housing as well, that is yet one extra cost).
