nokia is just getting better and better with every new iteration that it adds to its portfolio and even better in using suitable colors that fit together with good materials and software only thing missing is SonyEricsson-like UI with all the animations and ease

Posted by intelegent115
Is the first pic real? I hope it is not too small. I am waiting for this device for quite some time now. Anyone has any more pics?

Seems it will be rounded with metal parts like E51 and E90. I find that nice, also i hope it will be well built (no cracks)

very nice phone indeed

I guess it's OK, but it looks too much like a blackberry.

and thats bad why?

Wow....think ive found my next phone....thats very nice .

Posted by zaxan
@J273, I'm with you on that one. It just seems to do everything while also having a qwerty keyboard all inside a decent sized phone which looks good

EDIT: Does anyone know is the camera will have autofocus?

Posted by BobaFett
well, imo it will have the same cam as e90, so no crappy cz branding and imo it will have af... hope so... would be stupid to put the crappy n80 cam in it

Posted by Dextrr
Brilliant handset!!! I loved the older model for the 3 months I had it but missed a decent camera. If this E71 indeed has a 3MP and AF, I'm dumping my P1i for it as soon as it's available!

Posted by Dextrr
OMG! I just noticed one thing, 10mm!?!! I really hope the dimensions are close to the real thing. If you can't tell, I'm really excited about this phone!!

Yes, for good reason though. If all the claimed specs are correct this phone sure will be amazing, especially with it being only 10mm aswell

Posted by The Lostprophet
screen is 2.4'
camera is auto focus (as much as we can tell at MR)

causing alot of hyper over there.

Posted by QVGA
Ok, i just noticed the 2.4'' screen. So am i the only one who thinks thats ridiculously small? E61 has a 2.8'' screen and thats minimum for this form factor.

Posted by intelegent115
I am also wondering what nokia was thinking.. E61i is too big maybe?

I doubt typing will be done easily as it was on E61i, but better not judge too quick. Better just wait till more photos come, or the actual device to come out.

Posted by Supa_Fly
Just when I got the Motorola Q9h and was thinking that Nokia should redesign the E61i into something sleeker, smaller and more even with thickness dimensions ... they deliver!

WICKED!~

Posted by BobaFett
me seems it has almost the same size as e61 or e61i, so why should they put a smaller screen then on it? i tried to measure it and compare it with he hand on the pic

Posted by nettl
It's 13mm less wide than the E61i - which I'd call a HUGE difference in reality.

Posted by BobaFett
if thats really so smaller, it ill be a pain to type on it and the smaller screen is also a big minus then... semms the newer e series fones wont be rather a step back then, if it come to design.

Posted by intelegent115
Yes i agree, but i think that photos can have an optical illusions on us sometimes. More photos, or better seeing phone live should conclude it.

Posted by BobaFett
if they made the screen really smaller, thats crap imo... and step back... e61 and e61i size are more then ok for comfy usage. maybe nokia wanted to make it more compact, but if the price for it is the smaller screen and that small keypad, it was a mistake imo

Posted by bavlondon2
Screen is too small imo. 2.36 inches doesnt cut it for me.

I need at least 2.6 inches, I wish they had kept the same size as E61i.

Posted by intelegent115
I second both of you guys.. but are those measures official?

E71 would be a perfect phone if it kept the E61i`s form factor / size. Also screen and keys for comfortable typing. Some info says that it may also come in Q1! I guess my E90`s future isn`t certain

2.36 inches wasnt it?

Posted by BobaFett
do tha 0.04 really ount? anyway, nokia made many ppl to go for e61 and e61i, maybe even bb users, now, if i would be one of them, i would rather keep my old device.... also, do interested, what screen will it have? high res, like e90, or the same as e61?

Hi all

It is no secret that i consider the E61/E61i to be one of the best Buisness smart phones ever and definitely one of my all time favourites, as nice as this looks the reduction in screen size and Bav it was definitely 2.8" and the keys being that much smaller really are a turn off for me.

Why couldn't they of just left it as it was changed the colour scheme and added these things to the spec and then i would of been really happy, the much smaller screen and keys all to have a smaller device really has ruined it for me. Blast you Nokia when you make something perfect don't try and improve it as it rarely works, a very disappointed and upset Dogmann.

Dogman i know E61 was 2.8 inches, I was just saying 2.6 is the minimum i would accept but they should have left it like it was in the E61. Maybe it will still be nice for watching videos as its not a normal shaped 2.4 inch screen.

Posted by londonlad123
It does look like a 2.8 inch screen, it looks like the measurements are here wrong. It seems the screen has too much information on it to be a 2.4 inch, plus it has to fit in gps etc. 2.8 inch would be much better. Nice phone, reminds of the iPhone with the black colour and silver trim.

Posted by technical-expert
It looks like Nokia wants to make e61i sleek compact and good looking business device.I'm sure it will bring in new customers who r focused on looks of the phone and who need sleek and lightweight device. But those used to e61i screen might not find it better due to sceen size reduction.and space in between keypads.

The above device is to be expected to be annnounced arnd 3gsm

Its not 2.8 inches its 2.4 or 2.36 to be precise.

Posted by londonlad123
yeah I know its expected to be 2.36 but the devices is designed as if with a 2.8 inch, be a waste if there's not another with a 2.8 inch screen, reducing specs bit of a se thing to do.

Posted by BobaFett
whn will it be out? any info on that?

Expected q2 on vodaphone.

Mark I MUST disagree with you on the size and screen size of the E61/62's. It was WAY TOO wide, needlessly so ... especially since the default font was TOO small to be readable for those with sorry eyesight.

I've said it before that 2.4-2.6" is the OPTIMAL screen size (in landscape or portrait) for ANY phone to be used in a COMFORTABLE 1 handed use. Look at the varying FONTS on the BlackBerry lineup ... even with a 2.1" screen on the Pearl 8100/8130/8120 its legible ... and these folks read email CONSTANTLY even with glasses. I've NEVER heard of the CURVE being too small, or the keys horrible to type on.

Common ppl ... think with OPEN minds. NO company makes THE BEST device ... but many are BEST in certain fields. RIM is making extremely incredible & consistent sales EACH quarter for 5 qtrs in a row - always BEATING the market (investors/analysts) estimations significantly. They're doing something right, no? Also this is Nokia's MAIN focus ... although main competition is with Windows Mobile Smartphones (Motorola Q9h, Samsung BJ II, HTC Dash/S620, HTC S621, etc).

Keypad button arrangements and size's are ALWAYS different and our perceptions changes with different textures or shapes of the same size ... convex/concave, domed, etc.

When we hold this in our hands when its available, we'll all most likely sing a different tune in favor of it.

i still donnow if i should love or hate e71. aslong no official specs are out, i wait with my decision

Posted by intelegent115
Yes Prom1, the phone has to be seen and played with to draw any conclusions.. First live (blurry) pic seemed nice, i like those metal parts and slickness of the phone. The phone also seems to be a bit more rounded than E61i. If typing isn`t too much of a pain on this device i will surely be getting one. And let`s hope Nokia doesn`t price the phone too much due to the "new" form factor.

Posted by BobaFett
good point. seems that nokia decidede for rounded style, but to be honest, in a biz fone, i would prefer the old style, no rounds. imo 6233 etc style are way to fancy for a biz fone, th old style looks more solid and "serious"

Posted by Dogmann
@Prom1

Of course you are entitled to your view and opinion and it is as valid as anyone else's, but to me the E61 was something quite special and i really loved the form factor. I would of liked to have seen all the improvements minus the GPS and shape change in the same form as the original but that is just what my preference would of been. But as i now have a E90 it doesn't really matter to me as i seriously doubt i will sell my E90 for one.

I may be completely wrong and the general populous may much prefer this slimmer sleeker version but then i can't talk for them only for me. Anyway i would imagine it will be yet another successful E series in Nokia's line up.

Dogman, thank you. You scoundrel you - in a joking way. lol . you HAVE the coveted E90!? WOW ....

I wanna see a review: Size, portability perceptions, which apps natively work without modifications, etc?

Many ppl DO love the E61, very functional and powerful and quick to get to the keypad. But where the E90 rains supreme is that wide screen; spreadsheets & webbrowsing are incredible on it.

Posted by BobaFett
"We gave Nokia's E61 an editor's choice award when we reviewed it at the end of 2006, noting that, at the time, it offered a high-quality smartphone experience in a BlackBerry-esque body. Well, the game has changed quite a bit since 2006 and we're eager to see if the E71 has what it takes to keep up with the Joneses.

From the limited details we have so far, the E71 sounds like it has everything you'd expect -- which is to say -- it has everything. HSDPA (3.6Mbps) Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Micro SD support, a QWERTY keyboard and a 3.2-megapixel camera. Onboard GPS also assures Nokia is keeping its promise of having GPS in every new device.

We were lucky enough to see a "secret" side-by-side photo of the E71 with its older, bigger brother at this year's 2008 Nokia Showcase, and we were glad to see the newer model is considerably smaller. In fact, if early reports are true, the E71 is only 57mm wide and a svelte 10mm thick. This should make lovers of BlackBerry's Pearl series think twice before their next PDA purchase.

No word yet on pricing but we look forward to seeing the E71 in the CNET labs towards the end of Q2."

why does it have no resemblance to the E70

I love the E70!

Posted by DickySnapples
why would it resemble the E70, when its E61 replacement ?

Posted by BobaFett
imo fatreg is missing the foldeable keypad, he ment it that way

Posted by fatreg
only because the number... maybe I'm being dim.. but i would have assumed an E71 would the replacement for the E70 (I know it's not) but the numbers would suggest that..

and yes! I love the candy bar, fold out keyboard idea.. I've had em all! 6800, 6810, 6820, 6822, E70

Posted by londonlad123
I hope this phone is still due for q2 release? Any new info about?

Posted by fatreg
I know a person that is beta testing one...
