Ever wonder how good Paypal's protection is? Think I'm about to find out!

I thought I'd share a bit of my misfortune with you, and at the same time see how good Paypal's buyer protection really is!

I bought this DAB radio off a seller whose feedback is currently plummeting like a stone

Looks like he's a scammer, and I'm so far just over £50 out of pocket. I'll be filing an 'item not received' dispute on 24th Nov (earliest I can do it) and will endeavour to keep you posted on how it goes.

I paid (obviously!) by Paypal, with the money coming out of my bank account now a week ago. I emailed the seller a couple of days after buying the item, he said he'd posted it that day, and delivery would take '5-7 days' (Exactly the same amount of time for my money to be transferred from his paypal account to bank account... hmmm ) which are up.... just about now! But my instincts tell me I won't see this radio, this guy's going to cut and run I think!

So, any advice or pointers also welcome, from what I can gather getting my money back won't be a problem at all, even is this character closes his Paypal account - any other real world experiences of Paypal's 'buyer protection'?

From my experience with paypal getting your money back may not be straight forward. If you claim it back paypal will look to prove fault 1st, if thats ok they will attempt to take the money from the sellers paypal account if no luck here they will look to the 1st bank account attatched to the paypal account and request the money from there.................if he has removed any bank accounts from his paypal then you wont get the money straight away

I was in a similar situation some time ago, although i was being scammed and removed my accounts from paypal, paypal then took my paypal account into arrears and threatened me with court action for money retrieval, this was resolved when i proved that the buyer was infact carrying out an insurance scam and changing imie numbers on mobiles, like i said this was some time ago and things may have changed, the fact that you used paypal thru your bank might help

I'm hoping that's the case with my paying through my bank account! Sounds like you had quite an experience there Streetgang, but good that you managed to get your money back eventually!

I'm wondering if this time of year is particularly bad for scams, it was about this time last year someone pulled a chargeback scam on me and I lost £80 on a phone I'd sold and they claimed someone had used their credit card 'fraudulently'! Must be selfish gits making themselves more money for Xmas by depriving others

Right, I've just started a dispute, which has automatically been escalated into a claim as this joker's no longer registered! Well, I did this last night, not had a reply yet though, I think if the other party doesn't reply I win by default, so lets hope that's the case and I get my money back soon!

I did this regard TT tickets (about 2 threads down on the main page!), and although it took a couple of weeks I did get my money back.

I did the same - dispute and then escalated to a claim on the basis that she wouldn't be able to send them out in time (although at the time I was claiming as someone had alerted me that she might be dodgy, I tried to warn other ebayers but stupid ebay won't let you).

She tried to provide dodgy details to get round the automated part of the system

Company: Tracking
Number: 123

But she didn't get away with it and eventualy I did get my money back.

It worked for me - I hope that it does for you.
