i need help. i already got k800 for taking pictures and i found it nice and im contented with the pic quality, but we i wanna go serious picture taking, i wanna bring a digicam with me. im michael from philippines, i wanna buy an sony cybershot digicam. or olympus. budget is P16,000. any suggestion? what model do i have to buy? thanks

Posted by kelace
If u are so sure that u want a good digi cam , then u can take any of the w series w-80 ( with anti-blurr ) and 8 mega pixels ....

also olympus also has a new model , which is very slim and has 8 mega pixels ... its a bit cheap than sony ... also has 4x optical zoom as to sony's 3x ....

choose b/w them ..... I think olympus is a FE series ...

If you're serious about taking good shots, why aren't Nikon or Canon in your choices?

I'd personally choose between Canon and Sony... Sony products tend to cost more without really much more. A lot of people prefer Nikon also. I prefer Canon since they have better after sales support and warranty in the Phil.

perhaps im not really so sure with other brand, and im affraid to buy a crappy one. yah, sony is tested by time. yah, the well known cybershot, but its too expensive. i think i have to read some reviews on cameras... not just looking to their big names on the ads.

Try Kodak M883. Nice picture quality, slim, and a 3-inch screen.

infact... why not look for reviews out there first... in asia.cnet.com

in dpreview.com

Panasonic has this Lumix FZ8 and FZ18.. just dunno how are they doin here in the local market of Manila...

I've just bought the Panasonic TZ3. Great camera, 10x optical zoom, Mega Optical Image Stabilization (the best one in the biz), 7 megapixels, a 3" screen, and a wide angle Leica lens.

Seriously good pics. Considering that you've already got a K800 for taking 'normal' pictures, having a camera like the TZ3 means that you'll have more flexiblility with things like zoom range and wide angle photos. You won't regret it.

good point shaliron...

TZ3 is one of my fav....

so what is the best camera i can get with my P16,000 (approximately $320) ? i prefer sony or olympus because of the design actually.. i like the slim wide screen design and i like the built quality as well....

Sony T100 from ebay costs around 16K or
Canon ixus 75 which is cheaper

hey folks, im sorry to ask this stupid question but what the hell is ebay? one of my friend adviced me to buy gadgets on ebay.ph (philippines). i dont know exactly what it is. is it an auction sites? i mean, for selling of those slightly used gadgets? like bidding or what? or is it purchasing using credit cards? sorry for asking this stupid question guys but i dont relly know what ebay is... and i dont have much time to find out..... is it like the website called www.tipidpc.com?

Posted by rockygali
yes it is sumwhat like an auction site, for used gadgets..

and of course for brand new stuff...

there are other auction sites available in the Philippines,

auctions.ph / bidshot.com / tipidpc.com

choose whatever you want.. theres plenty. just follow the guidelines on the said sites.. then youll be on your way to a happy and secure online shopping.

you can use credit cards, if you want something more secure use paypal.
or to exactly be sure... do meet-ups. complete info is available on these sites so you wont get lost.

Tol, I suggest that you check out the powershot series of Canon. Might be slightly higher than your budget but I believe you won't regret it.

I remember the Canon A640 (10 mp) had good reviews but I think Canon already launched its newer sibling/s.

Sony, like what most say, are usually overpriced.

For cameras, I agree with one of the previous post about Canon and Nikon. I believe they are better and even more affordable/value for buck than Sony.

Also with Sony, you need to use Memory Sticks that are also very pricey compared to standard mem cards used by other brands.

what about sony t200?
i swear its a good cam:
8,1 mp
5x optical zoom
3,5" touchscreen
and so on

Posted by v3xat10n
thanks for the info... i dont like used gadgets... im gonna get a new one... one last questions? what are the ISO xxx on the digicams? thanks a lot

please see links

For ixus 75

http://search.ebay.ph/search/[....]m37&satitle=ixus+75&category0=

For all available sony cyberhsots

http://search.ebay.ph/search/[....]copagenum=1&coentrypage=search

Just check the seller's feedback and do meet-ups so if you may have issues on the item you can resolve it one time.

Obviously, not only used gadgets are sold in ebay. I bought all my previous SE phones there brand new and they all came with the SE warranty. Just be cautious of course and you may save 25 to 50% off the regular price

ei! since were talking about digicams here...

which of you guys go for the AA batteries and those Li batteries?

does AA batteries post certain disadvantages in performance over Li built-in.

ISO is basically increasing the sensitivity of the camera's sensor so that you can cut down on the exposure time. The higher the ISO, the more 'noisy' the image, which basically means those grainy and coloured spots on the image. It means that you don't get as blurry photos really.

Here's a very good article:
http://www.dpreview.com/articles/compactcamerahighiso/

A Sony doing ISO 400 is not necessarily the same as a Canon doing ISO 400. Some are better, some are worse, some are more grainy, some are smoother.

If you insist on buying a Sony, they don't come cheap. The T200 is a very expensive camera.

Posted by rockygali
yep.. T series are expensive.. even T70 which doesnt do much...
just with that touch screen feature...

Canon's A series powershots is doing good... its just that.. i dont want AAs on my digicam.

Also Nikon has Coolpix series...
Fuji has good lines of P&S (Finepix).

Actually there are tons of good cams... its up to your taste which one to grab for travel. and of course the one that would fit your budget.

happy hunting!

i have the canon IXUS 75 and i have to say i was a sony man before this, but wow! amazing pictures and a great lil camera... oh, and the video quality on it is top quality also

Posted by belialwafu
i prefer ixus

W-series Cybershots for me - perforemance wise, features wise quality wise battery-life wise betters any IXUS out there in the same price range but if you want more serious photography and loved the Sony colors than canon go for W200 - It's a 12Mp in a very small camera + BIONZ imager(used in sony alpha), Steady-shot IS, ISO 3200 and so much more

in choosing a camera, there are a lot of things to consider, not just the megapixels, ISO, zoom, etc.... must of the time, we often spend our time starring at the pics we've just taken, and it we havent transfered the pics to pc yet, we usually view it on the LCD of the digicam. thats why its one of the big factor i consider in choosing one... i want at least 2.5 LCD with at 115pixels or higher. but the olympus FE-230 it slim, and good LCD, but i dont think a 115K LCD resolution would be enough...... does is looks a little grainy?

When I BUY for something . . . I always GO for the BRAND that what it's WELL known for . . . say for cameras . . . I won't go (as MUCH as possible) for: Fuji or Kodak, because they were KNOWN for making: FILMS and not cams (then . . .). For spare .. . perhaps as I got me some Kodak digicams back then, but for primary use, it will always JUST be ONE of those I've mentioned above. Good Luck !

olympus FE-350 is a great camera, and olympus is one of the best camera manufacturer as well.

features:

8mp
230K LCD resolution
2.5 inch LCD
ultra slim
made of stainless body, not of cheap plastics

...and most of all, reasonable price

so you say sony isn't well known for cameras?

Honestly just like you, I hate Kodak Cameras, none of their high-performance cameras have matched the cameras Canon, Nikon and Sony offers - they're just meant for mid-low enders

i've made my decition already. im gonna buy either olympus FE230(7mp) or FE250 (8mp). extra megapixel is no big deal to me. im satisfied with 7mp but i cant decide yet because the 8mp FE350 has 230K LCD resolution, and FE230 has 115K LCD resolution only. but both 2.5 inch LCD, i think 230K LCD and 115K LCD in both 2.5 inch is not noticeable, i mean, almost noticeable unless u have an super exceptional eyes... i guess 230K in a 2.5 inch LCD is more than the eye can see... please post ur comment... ASAP..
