With the first race of the season in Melbourne this weekend I guess its time to start a thread for this year...

http://www.formula1.com/
http://www.answers.com/topic/2007-formula-one-season
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Formula_One_season

any pre season thoughts on driver changes or rule changes?

Posted by lamont
hi,

im glad you made a thread about this, i love F1!

Did you watch the programme about McClaren's new car and team? Should be a good season for them!

Cheers

Posted by *Jojo*
@masseur - Since you are in Australia at present . . . are you going to watch the INITIAL-stage-race for this year

As I was watching an Asian-news yesterday, I was surprised to see that Alonso will be driving for McLaren-Mercedes Team this year I wonder who will replace him in Renault-Williams Team

Posted by masseur
no, but its on again on ITV1 at 11pm tonight so I'll try to catch it

edit: no, unfortunately I got back to London yesterday morning

Alonso's McClaren team mate looks very promising aswell, i cant remember his name at the mo, i will look after.

I just looked into getting tickets for Monaco for my B'day but i think il have to give it a miss. It would be around £1500 for a 3 day break

Posted by *Jojo*
@masseur - OK . . . this season will be one to watch for . . as the MONEY-man of F1 had just retired - M. Schumy . . . and people are saying that Alonso will take his place for that I hope that David Coulthard (if he is still around) will ressurect his career this year . . . and some says that the GREAT (another one) - Mika Hakinnen will make a RETURN of the come back

Interesting to see how the lap times compare this year round being all on Bridgestones tyres. With Shuey and Montoya out, I am hoping to see a new rivalry between some new drivers build up.

Looks like another sleepless night this weekend, damn time zones!

I'm just hoping to see some overtaking this year rather tha n the usual precession

Posted by TruffleHunterSnortBeast
Lewis Hamilton, last seasons GP2 champion, is Alonso's partner for the coming season, and he looks like the the best of the current British crop. Although he has never competitively driven the McClaren, he is a fearles driver. If anyone saw his drive last season in China, I think, when he spun and was at the back of the pack, with about 5 laps to go, and he finished second, completing the final overtaking on the final straight, from 100m back. He will come a cropper trying that in F1, but fortune favours the brave, and I expect a decent first seson from him. Button will be nothing more than steady, and David Coulthard may pick a few lower points here and there. Light the blue touch paper, and watch for the bangs. Hamiton will respect no-one.

Th first-leg Australian Grand Prix will commence in just a couple of hours . . . some RULES for this season:

1. ONLY Bridgestone Tires will be used in the ENTIRE season by the whole team . . . Michellin is definitely OUT

2. NO modifications of car-engines wil be allowed from Day 1 of the race till the last-leg (race) . . .

Ferrari shown some good pace is australia ,
Good result for mclaren and great job by lewis..

I went and missed it....always though F1 was on Sunday afternoons

Will have to download and watch the race

Posted by masseur
its repeated on ITV at 16:10 this afternoon

most Grand prix are shown from about midday, but don't forget that Melbourne is currently 11 hours ahead of London

having said that, my wife was watching it live (as the family are in Sydney) and there was alot of talk on TV from Ecclestone that future Melbourne, and I think she said Malaysian too, would be held in the evening/night so that it can be seen live by more of the world at a reasonable hour

@brn - Looks like this GUY really did NOT respect anyone :eek It was said (thru F1 records) that the last TIME a NEWBIE made a PODIUM-finish happened in 1966 . . .

Looks like David Coulthard's career is really going down the drain he was one of the last finishers in the Australian-race . . . I just jope that he can REDEEM himself in the races to come . . .

Posted by >500
yep! Mr Bernie has almost confirmed this. Melbourne next year could very well be a night race..... id love to see a night race....

Posted by masseur
sounds dangerous to me for formula 1, especially if melbourne gets its endless days of wet weather

dark and rain and formula 1 just doesn't sound safe to me...

Posted by >500
if there is sufficient lighting then great! if not, as u said mass, to dangerous... indy cars have a night race though dont they?

Posted by don_d
Nope

Posted by *Jojo*
I think this SHOULD be done for a CHANGE. I remember watching a car race in the past where it was HELD both in daytime and at NIGHT . . . it's Le Mans 24 HOUR race I guess . . . and this Big Bike race in Japan which happened overnight . . . . drivers were inetr-changing though (not just one throughout the race) . . .

Posted by arien617
Yesterdays Canadian GP race was interesting...

So many safety cars out on the track!
Not long 'til Indianapolis.

8th Podium in 8 races for Lewis! not the most exciting race but still enjoyable

Posted by arien617
Yeh, I didn't really find this one exciting. Shame it was the last one at Magny Cours.

Posted by arien617
So... British Grand Prix at Silverstone today.

Hopefully it'll be another podium finish for Lewis, or better, another win!

Posted by TheWhizz_68
Unlucky lewis but still a podium (9/9)

Well done to Kimi, very good F1 British GP.

Posted by scottt
Yup great drive by Kimi thoroughly deserved.....

Well done to Lewis too, he really is under a lot of pressure to perform and win all the time..... Hell he has finished on teh podium in every race so far and is the world championship leader, but people expect so much more from the rookie...

Posted by pmerryman
Was there car trouble with Lewis Hamilton? He had over a second lead at one point, then I switched back on and he was in third.

What a mess! The race is restart and Hamilton was in 17th position

Posted by *Jojo*
This Lewis Hamilton guy will surely make a niche in the F1 race . . . he will surely be one of those who will make it to the top at the END of the season - driver's standing !

Posted by Bambino
I hate Masa, damn he even hit alonso's car, what a dirty game!
Ferrari is a cheater!

I remember thats is what schumi did to Mika in 97 at the end of season @ suzuka circuit!
What a dirty ferrari!

Posted by *Jojo*
@nokia - I agree, that it's a DIRTY-game specially if it . . . RAINED

I wasn't able to watch it in FULL . . . can you post the podium-finishes mate Thanks!

Posted by Bambino
No, when masa ramming alonso's car the lap is already dried enough. Masa is blocking alonso's car by keep drive in the middle of the track! No Way! Thats cheating!

Btw the result
1. Alonso - Mc larren (yaay!)
2. Masa - Ferrari (boo!)
3. Webber - red bull renault
4. Coulthard - red bull renault
5. Hedfeld - BMW
6. Kubica - BMW
.
.
9. Lewis Hamilton (im dissapointed )

@nokia - OK, thanks ! How I wish the the old-champs are still playin' : M. Schumy, Mika Hakkinen and Muhammad Ali !

Posted by senninha
@nokiamaniax

it's not really that surprising since massa is schumi's protege. that's just the traditional ferrari way of doing things...

Posted by Bambino
Yaeh thats whats i had thought.
I hope kimi dont get influence by that rude behaviour

Posted by Krubach
Massa hiting Alonso was inevitable.

The track is wet, and Alonso passes him on the outside.
Massa had two choices, spin or hit, he chose hit.

Race incident really....

next race is this weekend in Instanbul

McLaren hit with constuctors' ban

McLaren have been stripped of their points in the 2007 Formula One constructors championship after the outcome of the 'spygate' row.
The team was also hit with a record $100m (£49.2m) fine but drivers Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso will be allowed to keep their points.

The team's 2008 cars will have to be examined before they are allowed to race next season.

Posted by shyam335
What a shame to sport.
Everyone is after blood.

Posted by Bambino
I think it is better for mclarren to lost point and fined. Far more better than banned for 2 years from race.

Posted by masseur
At least Hamilton and Alonso keep their points and can still fight out the drivers championship

Posted by shyam335
100M fine destroys their development for next seasons + potential loss of sponsors..
waiting for official statement..

Posted by nicv27
i dont think it will have a negative effect on Mclaren - mercedes, with either hamilton or alonso winning this years drivers title, i dont believe too many sponsors will desert them.
Alonso and Hamilton are two of the most exicting drivers around and with this brings intrest and finance.

Posted by arien617
If merc can put £1m a day on R&D for their passenger cars, £50m shouldn't have too much of a negative effect on the F1 team.

Am I right in saying this or what?

Posted by nicv27
no the money wont make a difference to Mercedes at all

Posted by Bambino
Sometimes i think "how if the document given from stepeney to coulghan were only a bait" or "do the document recieved by coulghan was containing a few years more advance than mclarren's? How bout it only was a dumpfail design?"

It do bother my mind so much!

no mercedes just engineer the engine! Mclaren are the ones taking the hit here, and the amount they were fined is OUTRAGEOUS!

Network Rail were find 4 million for the crash that killed 31 people and injured 400!!!! Just to put this into context.

also they make the money from the manufacturer points which is a double bloe for McLaren as this is one of there main sourced of income! where will this £50 million go then? whose pocket??
