Hi. My PC is running very slow and was wondering the best way to upgrade it, without buying a new PC. I have a £300 around about without Vista to play with.

Im totally clueless about computer bits, so can any tell me if these are any good, or even advise me on what to do?

My current specs are:
2.2 Ghz Processor
1gb Ram PC2700
240gb HDD
2 DVD-RW Drives
And im running windows 2003 server.
I also have a 128mb nVidia Graphics card, although it has stopped working

What would i need to do to get it running quicker? If i buy these parts below will it be enough to get it going faster again?

GRAPHICS CARD
PROCESSOR
MOTHERBOARD

I have been told that i would be better buying a new pc, but i have the HDD and Ram that would just be going to waste.

I would appreciate any answers, thanks

Better? A big YES
Cheaper? A small no

That config fits ur budget & for dat old RAM stick n HDD of urs. Though dat Graphic Card u mentioned is a crap. As Ph4z3r said go for a card based on GeForce 7600GT/GS chipset.
If u feel Asus is costly u can get cards frm XFX or Forsa or Leadtek or Gainward, with that same GeForce chip.

Dunno whether u cud get one mor 1GB PC2700 DDR mem stick. If u cud den u'd get a fast PC ready for a Vista feast. Also try to configure memory to work in Dual Channel mode for more performance.

Best wishes pal!

I wudn say dat d CPU n MB are gud.

U c Danny, u wanna keep dat RAM stick of urs, which brings in incompatibility issues when considering better MBs n CPUs. ie: Newer MB's doesn't suprt ur existin RAM.

Dat Intel 865 chip based board is an age old granny... the CPU is not bad though

I'd recommend u 2 try 4 an upgrade that includes a new RAM. U may keep dat HDD intact. Here's my affordabl components...

CPU- Athlon 64 X2 3800+ AM2
MB- Asus M2NPV-VM
RAM- 2GB (1GB+1GB in DualChannel) DDR2 @ 533MHz
VideoCard- onboard GeForce 6150 (core same as dat of GeForce 6200)

An onboard vid card is enough if u r not in2 any serious gamin. That onboard chip fully supports Vista Aero interface. With 2GB sys mem u cud expect gud overall performance too...
Anyway d board has a PCIe 16x slot for any future Graphics Card upgrade, if u ever need one.
