@marcellos

Welcome to esato and thanks for this warning. I wouldn't buy anything of any value from a chinese seller as I have been bitten too. You always end up keeping the goods until they refund the money and vice versa.

I was promised a OEM housing but when it arrived it didn't even have the words Sony Ericsson on. What a joke.

Anyway, I won the case and Paypal refunded me, lets hope you do too.

Paypal didn't help me as I've mentioned.
He's a big seller... and the copies they sell are quite similar to the original (not everyone notices it).
Paypal said they only help if more people complain about him.

You should really look closely and, the more important is to check the audio quality. Then you have no doubts.

Meanwhile he is selling many many of these and other similar products...
Pathetic.

I've asked the seller to refund my costs (in advance of course), so I could just send back this crap. But he denies it. He wants me to ship it back to him and then he would refund me. Yep, right...

i also got bitten once from a ''top'' e-bay seller (hong kong) by purchasing a fake se bluetooth headset paypal could not help. but I NEVER BOUGHT ANYTHING THAT COMES FROM HONG KONG AGAIN....

Posted by aremaboy
So, there IS a fake HBH-DS 970 around already..Oh my, to whom should we trust now? Fake Memory Stick, fake earphones, battery, and now bluetooth device...wish they didn't fake my K800i either..(sigh)..

Posted by frakker
Hmm. Well I've asked my other half to buy me a HBH-DS970 for Christmas, I can only hope she hasn't gone on eBay to get me it as I don't want to be doing with some complete fake!

Posted by marcellos
Well, in case you believe it's fake, make sure you file a dispute with paypal asap.
And leave feedback here for follow up...

btw, someone else got a fake. Check his feedback:

Paypal is a pantsy and needs to grow some balls.

Posted by frakker
Thankfully I've discovered that she bought it from the SE Store online instead.

marcellos, have you thought about adding your discoveries on the reviews/guides on eBay: http://search.reviews.ebay.co.uk/ ?

They have guides up at the moment about fake Memory Sticks and how to spot them, but nothing about the HBH-DS970.

Posted by marcellos
It's a nice idea, but sorry, but unfortunately I've spent to much time already with this crap.
Maybe you or someone else can do it...

If someone wants to do it, please post a copy of the pictures and remove any personal reference. I don't need any credits btw.

Posted by frakker
Fair enough. If I put it up on there do you want a mention for your efforts?

Edit: perhaps not!

No, as I've mentioned, I don't want any credit. Thanks.

Actually there's an excellent way to help more people.
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
-On ebay "advanced search" you can see who just bought the headset.
(search for "DS970", select "Completed listings only" and "From specific sellers" : n*capri*n , "items located in: any region")
You will see that he is selling A LOT!
-If everyone here would contact some buyers via ebay and alert them to the possibility of receiving a fake product, that would be something really helpful.
Ebay limits the communication between members when they are not involved with the transaction, so everyone could cooperate a bit contacting a couple of buyers.

Who would be willing to help here ???? Spread the word!
I'm curious if we will see some extra negative feedbacks poping up.

Here the link I've used directly to the search (try if it works):
http://search-completed.ebay.[....]t=2&satitle=DS970&sofindtype=1

Notice he stopped selling those headsets. Or is selling now via another ebay username!
You can check here:
http://stores.ebay.com/Capri-Store

And if you look on google for: "fake DS970"
his negative feedback is shown here in 6th place !
Edit: and this thread is shown in 1st place !!!

I bought my ds970 from this ebay seller and I'm also no satisfied with its quality. I was unhappy about the fact that they opened the item to check if it works before they ship it out while claiming it's brand new and sealed on their sale post. By testing it before the initial 8hr charge can effect the performance of the battery, but after seeing this webpage made me realize i'm facing a more serious problem. I already wrote the seller but so far no reply yet. I'm going to see if I can get a real one from sonystyle store tomorrow and compare the sound quality.
I think it's a good idea to notify the buyer that bought the headset from this seller. I'll start writing them messages

**************************************************
hmm...i was only able to write to 3 other ebay buyers then ebay stop allowing me to send more because i'm not involve in any open transaction with these member.

@ marcellos

Good for you for following this through man. And everyone else who takes the time to read the post and folow up with a renegade action plan. I love to see the little guy come out on top.

Posted by nabboR
Me too was cheated by this man.
I Wrote him a mail earlier to day, no reply so far, this is was I wrote.

"Hi dear sir!

I want to complain on my newly bought Sony Ericsson HBH DS970 Bluetooth Stereo Headset
I've got a hard time to believe that this is the real stuff, but even if it is, it don't work as it's suppose to work.

Everytime there's an incomming call, the headset hangs (crasches) I can see a distorted name (caller-ID) in the display and that's it. Even my SE P990i crashes in this event.
It works for my outgoing calls, but not a single voicecall work, I've got to dial the number manually.

furthermore, when listening to the music, mainly bass is very weak.

I went down to my local dealer and tested a new HBH DS970 and WOW, what a difference.
So again, I don't think this is the original (my local dealer told me instantly that it was a cheap china-copy)
But anyway, even if it was, it does not perform.

Obviously I can't use it though it crashes every single time I get a incomming call so I want to undo this buy.
How do we do so I can get my money back, and for you to get your HBH DS970 back, if you even want it back, it is useless."

funny, now i look at my closely, the logo on the left ear piece is different from the right. they look like they are hand made with little scissors hahaha. I guess that makes each of our fake headsets special and unique huh?

Hi
what do u think about this seller

Posted by ruk11
I don't wanna say all hong kong and china sellers are selling fake ds970s but i would advise you to stay away from them if possible.

Posted by MYB87
God damn it this is the the second fake thing i buy from e-bay >< i knew there was something wrong with it but there was no one else i know had it so i couldnt compare

Posted by marcellos
Mister Fake crap has got 3 new negative feedbacks.
Maybe warning the buyers is helping them judge it ?
Shall we warn a couple more ? What do you say guys ?

Posted by marcellos
Btw, as this is paperweight for me now, I'm going to try to cut the wires of the earpieces of the fake and try to connect quality headsets (normal stereo ones) to see if I can still use it as a bluetooth audio connection. (as the remote control function won't work propery).
Then I'll be able to judge if the circuitry is all crap or if the earpieces are the worst part...

There's a parallel discussion going on at the address above. I am waiting on an order on ebay from sum sum boutique of the HBH DS970, but looking through the product warranty information they also referece "Capri Store". I am very concerned I too will get a fake headset. How can i help in the effort to get pay pal to do something?

i really wnat a ds970

wat should i do????

@kifahna

No brainer surely? Buy it from a reputable source?

what about this one?

I was thinking more of buying it from somewhere else online - not on eBay...

Posted by nabboR
No answer yet, will probably have to wait until after the weekend.
I'll let u know as soon as I get some info, realising that my money surely is gone

Posted by nabboR
Well, now at least I know he read my mail, I use a tracker proggy for all email that I send doing bizz, this time it was opened in the centre of Beijing, the two earlier I've sent him during the ebay-auction was opened both a few miles outside kowloon Hong Kong.

Maybe he manufactures the headsets by himself i China

Still no answer...

Posted by siandy
Sorry for you guys... but you must realize that if you buy the product so cheap you must be aware they are fake one.. even if the seller told you it's original. I have been at china about a year now and know a little thing that in the market here fake ds970 is about 300RMB and original one more than 500RMB ( this price for quantity purchased ) so if you got price less than 500RMB(please convert it to your currency rates) i can tell you for sure it's fake.. hope it help

Posted by Tiny
Seriously, that seller must be laughing himself into a prolapse, the bastard

Posted by nabboR
Well, I've got an answer, and so far it seems to be OK, he asked me to send it back after the new year and I'll get a refund.
I'll let u know how it goes.

Posted by marcellos
Wait a minute... Let's recap the facts:
1-we pay him in advance
2- he sends us a fake
3- we have to arrange and pay the shipping back
4- we have to trust he pays us back our money (Why should the buyer be always the one to trust...?)
5- He has the fake again ready to sell and fool someone else.
6- You spent your time, your money (I can't immagine he will refund you your shipping costs or any extra costs you've had)

Sorry, I know that maybe you don't have a better option, but this just doesn't seem really "OK" to me.

I totally agree with u m8.
But as u said, there's not much to chose between.
It's all about cutting some losses.
That's the sad story.

I've always said, "is it to good to be true it's not true" but in this case it was not really THAT cheap, about 35% lower then the local shop here in sweden so I took it to be real, appearently not

Posted by oksehud
I bought a headset from the same seller, and it worked like s***, poor sound quality, and froze up, when receiving a call.
Furthermore the headset was scratched, and seemed used, so I contacted the seller, who said I was a liar and that I scratched the headset myself. I contacted Paypal, and they said I was eligible for a refund, when I returned the headset. The headset was sent back last week, and Paypal is investigating as we speak.

Here is some pictures of the "new" headset:

Posted by marcellos
I really suspect paypal might give a couple of refunds, but it won't take his account down. It's not of their interest... They (and ebay) get lots of money because of this scammer.

The buyers pay the bill. It's a win-or-win situation for them.

The fact that ebay limits the communication between the users not involved with the transaction also makes it more difficult to alert others to this kind of situation. Paypal mentioned that, if they would get more complains about the seller, they would contact me... I see here many feedbacks and never heard of paypal anymore...

Posted by yoyo44
so do you think all the headsets the seller sells are fake or just some of them? why are so many people satisified?

Posted by frakker
@yoyo44

Most likely because they don't know the difference between a legitimate model and a fake. Some people aren't as 'clued up' as say SE devotes that post on Esato.

Posted by Tiny
I was actually thinking of buying one of these, good job I didn't. Maybe I'll have to wait till my bday

Posted by marcellos
I agree with Frakker. After getting screwed now and after reading and informing myself more about it, I believe most of the headsets they sell are fake (my guess is 90%).

Here is my explanation to so many positive feedbacks:
Some give a positive feedback a bit too soon;
Some accept the fact that is fake because of the price/quality relationship;
Some might think it's just not a good headset (not seller's fault);
Some people just can't see/feel the difference;
Some might give as a present (and do not test it);

It's not so obvious that something like that is fake. If it would not be for the sound quality, I probably wouldn't notice without comparing closely with the original.
Ironically, the seller told me: "I don't see the difference" when I showed him the page with the photos comparing with the original.
What a crook.

check this:

I got mine yesterday from the knob and thought the sound quality was crap. It also took a few times to connect each time to my p990. The ear buds are also crap although i have never seen an original to compare. It has also now froze with the backlight on

Cant believe the prat has robbed us

So disappointed because everybody on here and my-symbian have been given them rave reviews

@ an original owner - are the ear buds really good quality ??

Not sure i want to spend the money on an original set now

Posted by chlorine
why did I find this before I bought from this seller

I just got the headset today... it looks pretty real... but I can see some flaws... charging the headset now... I tried pairing it with my phone and that doesn't even work...

not sure which route to go...

-try to get refund from seller (risk losing even more money, shipping + headset)...

-resolve through PayPal?

not sure what is best... there's an actual HK address (wonder if it's real), can always get my friends to pay a visit.

Posted by oksehud
I got a full refund from Paypal today, but of course I had to pay for the shipping of the headset back to Caprimotherf*****.

But, as stated before, it is a question of cutting the losses.

I got a refund of the full price + shipping to me, (£44.98) but had to pay £7 to ship the crap headset back to the seller.

Lesson: Do not buy ANYTHING from ebay shipping out of Hong Kong....

Posted by frakker
@oksehud

Have you left feedback for the seller yet? I just thought it might be a good idea to put the link in the first post in your comments on eBay for all to see - that will teach them to make shoddy goods and rip us off.

About the only thing I'll buy from Hong Kong these days are protective screens, anything electrical is a complete no no.

Posted by marcellos
you are not allowed to post links on ebay feedbacks...

Posted by frakker
Really? That's rubbish! But I guess that's to be expected from eBay.

Posted by marcellos
Maybe as an alternative you can say , google for something, or maybe post the case on something like:
