What the hell is going on with eBay

I have just been monitoring a sale on eBay where one poor seller was selling his S700i and had £82 going for it.

Then in the last minute two people jumped in and bid on it for outrageous prices like £217, ruining the poor guys sale. What b*stards?

Thats the second time this week I've seen it happen. Does it happen a lot now?

Evil buggers.

Snipers are very comon on ebay...
I do it all the time.

Posted by tombadier
These aren't snipers, cause they have no intention to pay for the phone.

They are simply winning the phone at stupid prices forcing you to pay high final value fees and to waste your time.

It is happening all the time!

Yeah it is really mean this is why i do not sell on ebay just not worth the hassle at all.

Posted by solidsingh
some ppl have no choice but to sell on ebay, particularly traders like me, people on forums want too much for too little

Posted by haynesycop
Yeah i know you can get much better prices on ebay but you take a risk when listing high value items like phones.

If you selling little things your less likely to get stung, i only use ebay for buying now.

happened to me three times in a row sadly.
these bastards sometimes go on to waste your time and making excuses.

When i sold my XDA IIs it got "bought" on buy it now 3 or 4 times from scammers and zero bidders. Its such a pain in the ass!

I have never really had a problem. I only accept Paypal and the people who try to ruin these auctions/ bin dont register with paypal as its to much of a painto join. Ebay blocks all people who try to bid on my auctions who dont have a paypal account.

yery true also people on forums back out and its a less controlled market place.
I just block them myself very easy to do I find

Seen this quite a few times, scammers trying to tempt people into thinking they've got an over the top price for their item, and that greed will make them lose their rationality!

Luckily (so far) it's not happened to me, but probably just a matter of time!

They should have an option whereby sellers can choose not to accept bids from members below a certain feedback score.

It would help loads....

It hasn't happened to me yet though I'd be livid if it did....

I think you can set bidder requirements when you list an item, and I think you can block all bids from say, everyone with a zero rating or below a certain amount. Never tried it myself though, and the problems I've had have actually often been from people with more than 5 feedback!

My previous w800i was bought by a nigerian priest, then by another nigerian buying it for his daughter.

Really pisses me off.. there should be more ways to stop these people getting accounts.. i think you should have to register your card details to become a buyer as well as a seller.

@JJ: just for clarity, what do you mean by "these people"?

Posted by JJ!
These people = scammers/people pretending to be who they are not/people who have no intention of paying for the goods.

Posted by goldenface
He means "these people" who horse around on ebay and make peoples lives a misery by ruining their auctions.

And for the record I have nothing against nigerians or nigeria! I was just posting the 2 scams I had!

Posted by goldenface
Just seen it happen again! The place must be plagued with it. It's a bit cruel though isn't it. Sounds like someone is having a right old laugh snuffing out the auctions lilke that.

i need to sell another w800.. but so reluctent to put it on there...

indeed but my last buyer filed a paypal complaint saying he never recived the phone even though i had proof of delivery (recorded) and they took the money out of my paypal account.

really batsie? so how can we be safe selling on ebay?

I have one word: Escrow

I use it for any item over $200, and that includes most unlocked phones. I've used it a few times before, there is a small charge, but I'm perfectly willing to pay a few extra dollars to make SURE I get my item. But it isn't ALWAYS just a few dollars, they ask for a $25 minimum, meaning if your item was $150, you'd have to pay $25 just to "secure" it. Most of the times when Escrow is involved, the buyer and seller will split the Escrow fee.

P.S. I've felt the wrath of eBay. I was young and naive, too young. Anyways, I bought a $1,500 computer, seller didn't ship, threatened legal action, money came in next week. I still used legal action, though.

Same Happened to me when I sold a Breitling Watch

But never had timewasters so to speak bid on my auctions. But i've stopped selling on ebay, If I have anything to sell I put it up here or sell privately... Rather get less money than have my time wasted.

this just happened to me too. I sold a PS2 slim and 2 games for 800 USD. the buyer is form nigeria. they keep emailing me becuase i asked them if they are legit. (of course they said yet), but they have some really good fake paypal emails too. they really can trick someone easily.
