A minute for yourself

A minute, that's 60seconds, not a very long time. Yet, how long has it been since you've spent a minute reflecting? We're so caught up in our work, so lost in the material world. A lot of us become annoyed at the slightest touch. We're caught in a predicament, we don't like what we're doing, yet we can't not do it.

We walk down the streets, earphones plugged firmly into our ears, eyes looking but not seeing, talking but not speaking. We're hiding in ourselves.

You are facing problems, you can't see the solution.

Stop, take a deep breath. You've probably spent a little less than a minute getting here, so spare yourself another minute.

Feel the air flowing into your lungs, take full breaths instead of the shallow breaths you've become accustomed to. Close your eyes and try to recall the last time you were really happy. Take a minute for yourself.

There, does it feel better?

Actually the other night I spent about 6 hours reflecting my life and it made me relise that I hate myself and what a bastard I am... I wouldnt recomend it

Heh... Come on now, if you actually took 6hrs to reflect, you can't be that bad, seriously. You just need to work on the negative things that you have realised about yourself. I ain't a saint either, i sometimes wish i did a lot of things differently, and maybe didn't do some of the things i did, but regretting won't change the past. I also realise i'm saying this more to myself than to you. Heh...

wow... that was werid. It really does make you think what the hell are you doing. I see what you mean by were lookin but not seeing. I really need to sort some things out AND

Thats so true....we really do need to examine ourselves much more closely and take a good look at ourselves in the mirror (really look not just stare) and reevaluate our lives.

well my problems I cant do anything about so reflecting on them does me no good lol

I heard something like this on the radio, we're so occupied with our busy lives, and when not doing that we've got our iPods on, etc.

It recommended spending some time just lying down, no music or anything on, just time to yourself to think and reflect on things.

I'd also recommend a good brisk walk too, I find that helps me too, or a nice long bath. Relaxing, apparently one of the best times to do some thinking!

I do a lot of thinking in the shower... spend about an hour a day in there, if the occasion calls for it... 2 showers a day

Hmm. . We often tend to focuss the external world. Then ofcourse it is good to focuss within ourselves for some time. That in due course leads to find out the purpose of our birth.

Nice to know there are still plenty of people who do reflect from time to time. It does give us a sense of direction in our lives when we feel lost. Cheers people!

I think sometimes I reflect a bit too much! But it's important to do so, for ourselves and others - if we go through life not reflecting, we can become self-absorbed and lose our self-awareness, we all need to do it from time to time

Been there done that........ I had to go and literally turn my life upside down... as if shaking a bag till everything has fallen out, then only putting back the few items I actually wanted....

But to get to this point has taken me far longer than just a minute mind

They say people do most of their thinkin on the 'can' - to put it in American terms

Would probably agree with that lol.

Very true, a lot of my deep thinking takes place on the throne... either that or some quality psp time

Actually, it was his post which made me start thinking about myself. And then I realised that hey, I can't be the only one feeling this way. There must be lotsa people out there who are feeling exactly the same way as me. So I decided to put up this post. Hmm... I do hope it helped at least a couple of people out there, cos sometimes words can be very powerful, if we know how to use them right. Helping even one person simply by letting him read this thread is definitely worth more than the time I took to post it.

I wallow so much in reflection that I end up getting depressed. Here I am with a dozen books in front of me, seeing no point in knowing how to do Langrage multipliers and higher-dimension multiple integrals, with an exam only a few hours away... And I just can't seem to pick myself up and just friggin' deal with it and study. Help!

Sometimes I end up wondering why we have to go through all these hardships when we're gonna end up dying anyway.

I think of how a lot of people work hard throughout their lives - through school, through jobs... When it mostly ends up in the hands of the 1% who are wealthy. How to corporations we're just dispensable and replaceable kegs in a machine. I'm sorry I'm not being as articulate, but... I get depressed whenever I think of all the hardships that the majority of humanity has to face just so a select few can bask in their wealth derived from exploitation. It makes me depressed that ever since the Industrial Revolution, or maybe farther back than that, that people think nothing of taking advantage of other people just to get that darned piece of colored paper - and more and more of it.

I'm sad that babies in Africa have to die just so a pharmaceutical company can meet their deadline for the release of a drug/treatment.

I'm sad that people are dying and have died just for a drop of that murky, black gunk.

I'm sad that the notion of nations is slowly becoming a myth... That, it may just be, in reality, a world of alliances between governments, corporations and companies... That it may just be true that humanity is a priority no more.

Darn. I really am depressed. LOL.

Hey @scapevelocity, I think I feel the way you do about the world in general, and I'm sure everybody else feels the same way sometimes. I question the reason for my existence, the reason for our existence. Maybe someone would be kind enough to help us out here, cos it's beyond my depth at the moment.

@mcrosser, checked out the threads you mentioned. Haha... No, no, don't get me wrong, I'm not setting up some kind of help thread. I only posted what I was feeling at that time. It was meant to be just that one post to try to encourage people to take a break from "life". But of course, if anybody wants to post your problems here, I'm sure there'll be plenty of Esato-ians who are willing to give some advice.

well, I remember some post in switchbitch's thread were someone asked a similar question, but it was deep in, so I feel lazy searching for it, sorry !
