Found I've been using this facility more and more on my P910.

So much so that I've been shopping round for W800/900.

I know full well that its truly a business phone, but have they improved the music player on the P990, as the P910 is pretty cr@ppy ?

Yes, me three, using PowerMP3 on my P910i with 1GB Pro DUO and the music quality is excellent. Only issues is when multitasking, the are bound to be crackling sound.

P990i's Philips's Nexperia PNX4008 application processor comes with Audio DSP and hence this problem should be history Michal from my-symbian has a beta P990i unit and confirms his beta unit is free from this issue too:

Cheers people is this freebie software ?

Unfortunately its not. I too have the same prog, works great too.

The software in the new P990 works more like in the W800 and K750 with categorization into "Artist", "Album" etc.

That is, more "iPod like"

I'm also a happy PowerMP3 user and have suggested the programmer of PowerMP3 to add this kind if functionality to the player.

In the past he has been very good in listening to his customers, so let's keep our fingeres crossed.

In the meantime, if you are not using PowerMP3 on your P-series, I suggest you purchase a license to support development and get yourself a much better MP3, Ogg or AAC experience on your phone

cheers
Peter

Hi I just bought a 2 gig card and it rendered the built in player almost useless, spent £13+ on PowerMP3 from Handango, and bingo, I now have a device most Ipod owners would be jelouse of! best software I have ever put on my phone (SMAN excepted of course) buy it you will not regret it

I tried PowerMP3 on evaluation, but I wasn't too impressed. It didn't seem to be too well integrated with the rest of the phone, unlike the built-in player. In FC mode, for instance, how do you switch to another app such as Messaging when PowerMP3 is running? How do you switch to another folder's (ie, album's) worth of tracks?

Maybe I missed something -- if any PowerMP3 users out there can suggest an answer, I'd be grateful.

I do not use the flip, hence unable to help much. But a quick check using virtual flip shows I am able to access "Applications" when PowerMP3 is playing in Flip Closed mode. From "Applications" menu, I can go "Messages". Does this helps?

Do you guys not find that the battery dies VERY quickly when using the mp3 player? My p910i only used to last about 1/2 hours with music playing, so i gave up and bought another iPod.

Hi,

I uses PowerMP3 for 2 hrs daily during to and fro from work, and the entire day with GPRS turned on for IM and the rest are calendaring, SMSes and phone calls (using HBH-300 BT headset). At the end of the day, at around 11pm at nite, my phone is most of the time left with almost 15% battery life. Of course, I charge everyday with these heavy usages. Btw, PowerMP3 is known to suck battery more than the defaul music player, due mostly to its EQ support. Hope this helps.

i tried the power player & didn't find it all that great.the basic player of the p910i is pretty loud even without an equalizer.
unless i'm really wrong,i remember seeing a screenshot of the p990i on bengal boy's site in which the mp3 player app even displayed album info,an image of the record's cover.

Given the size of the P*** screens and all the other functionality the device offers, there will always have to be a degree of compromise of function and battery life, it is generaly accepted that the P*** series batterys are perhaps not as long lasting as we would like but all in all it does a good job for a muti function device.
If MP3 Player life is very important, try turning the device to "flight mode" and use SMAN to shut down any other apps whilst you listen to music?

@adnhk1:

Thanks a lot for posting those screenshots. The menu you show can be brought up in FC mode too, I've found -- so I stand corrected! I must have confusing PowerMP3 with another player I've tried.

Hi, may I know which version of PowerMP3 have you tried? Version 1.x only adds EQ for MP3. With version 3.0, EQ supports MP3, AAC and OGG formats. With EQ, we are not only talking about loudness alone, but the ability to fine tune music to suit our own preferences; increase the bass, increase the vocals or how about increases the treble and fidelity?

Also, not forgetting the very useful feature of PowerMP3 that allows us to use the handsfree answering button to skip to the next song and kick start a song without touching the phone. The default music player is also being plague by the infamous "Refreshing" status everytime the moment app is started or when coming back to it when multitasking as it does not support proper playlist. With about 60 songs in one folder, it takes the default music app about 15 secs to "refresh" and this is something that many people are unable to accept.

Imagine this, I am listening to music now with the default music player. An SMS comes in, I switch over to messages to reply the sms. Then I go back to music player trying skip this song to the next as it does not support the handsfree button for performing this task. Bump, music stops, with "refreshing" status blinking for 15 secs. Music playsback after 15 sec. Bump, my calendar reminder kicks off reminding me of something and the music stops again. I have to take out the phone from the pocket and tap ok to the reminder alarm. But the music still stops there and will not continue. Handsfree button is not supported hence I have to unlock my phone and go back to default music player and again, "Refreshing" takes 15 secs. I guess after all these numerous "refreshings" are done, I have already reached either my office or my house!

Yes P990i's music player should be a killer app when released

Cheers

Hi, I've been using PowerMP3 during flights and confirms that with flight mode, PowerMP3 lasted 5 - 6 hours max. Actually, I find this good enough considering it is an all-on-one device
