I ordered it immediately after the Apple launch, and have just got it. I must admit that this is the first time for ages that I have been seriously impressed by any device. The sound quality surpasses all previous models (in my opinion). Add to this a seriously sharp screen, and videos. Video on the new iPod looks super sharp, not only the ones downloaded from iTunes, but also the converted vids (which are in h.264). The whole experience is excellent, and I can recommend it to anyone. This is ofcourse not a review (I only got it a couple of hours ago). Here's a couple of pics:

Btw the video quality is superb, you can't quite see it in the last picture.

P.S. Sorry for this superficial review, but I'm still playing with my new 5G iPod...

EDIT: Just got these pics:

This is what it looks like in the hand:

iPod mini, V3 RAZR, iPod 30GB White, P910i:

Lucky You!

It looks remarkably thin, I think this is a definite thing for christmas maybe....

Can you compare it to a PSP? How about the output to your TV set? The new ipods look sexy, only problem is they just have no backwards compatibility with current accessories like the remote or FM device.

Posted by Davo_169
that is one sexy peice of real estate

Posted by lamont
that is reallllly nice, how much it set you back??

Posted by Coxy
Not an iPod fan but thats pretty sweet. Nice one!

Posted by p900 lover
Very nice, looks so thin compared to the V3, i understand u dont get a firewire cable do you?
if not is it possible to use my old firewire cable from my ipod photo?

Posted by haynesycop
Sweet!!!

I want it even more now, you lucky bugger

Posted by kk.226
haha i knew that was coming!

Posted by haynesycop
Will the apple ipod remote work with this?

I hope they bring out some more accessories, have you seen the apple universal dock and remote, they look really good.

Posted by kk.226
Nope remote wont work, look at the top, iPod only has earphone jack, no extra hole for the remote.

Posted by haynesycop
Now that is rather crap!!! The remote is something i couldn't do without.

Hopefully apple will release a new version, they have too.

Posted by EastCoastStar
so the iTrip etc wont work? they will have something out in a few weeks. they wouldnt do that to us

Posted by kk.226
Yeah i don't think that'll work either, i THINK they wanna do everything through the dock connector now :S

Posted by haynesycop
Yeah but that is lame it looks odd why have an itrip sticking out of the bottom, its upside down

You don't wear a hat on your arse do you!!!

Posted by kk.226
Yeah... well its just like plugging your earphones into the BOTTOM of the nano!

Posted by haynesycop

So i wont be able to put it in the dock and use the itrip at the same time

I know Griffin have brought out a new itrip which has an lcd display, which is compatible with the ipod video.

That is pants, not being able to use both. Apple have made a boob there.

london-uk could you post some pictures of the top and bottom of your ipod, please.

I think I'm going to order a 60GB white one on Friday, still not 100% sure yet!

Posted by JT
I'd go for the Black one, looks so sophisticated

Anyway could someone please tell me how much it costs to download a single song from itunes or the music store (whatever its called).

Thanks

Posted by haynesycop
Around 79p isn't it dpends on the song i think?

Posted by JT
Thanks, it is 79p

Posted by kk.226
I agree black looks a lot better, but after a few days, and a hundred scratches later... i'd regret not going for white.

Posted by maddav
Yeah, I got a black nano and it looks like I've had it for at least 2 years

Posted by kk.226
Whener i get big scratches on the ipod (screen/body) I rub it like MAD with brasso metal polish... it gets rid of deep scratches after 15/20 mins work

Posted by london-uk
@neonismo, I haven't tried a PSP unfortunately, but the biggest difference is obviously the size of the screen (iPod 2.5 inches), however the quality is superb and easily watchable without straining your eyes. As for tv output, it is decent (similar to e.g. vhs), but photos lok good (even blown up on a 32 inch.

@Lamont £219 inc free delivery

@p900lover, you can only use firewire for charging, it now comes with a USB cable to charge it via computer (if you want a wall-charger you have to buy it seperately, however you could use your old firewire wall charger if you have one)

@miss copperfield
As requested pics of top and bottom (sorry about quality)

Only headphone socket and hold switch on the top

Only dock-connecter on the bottom

@kk.226 Does the brasso thing really work? I'd be afraid that it would make loads of tiny tiny scratches

Posted by kk.226
Well if your ipod is brand new mate and only 1 tiny scratch i dont recommend it, but if it's full of lots of little (and a few big deep ones), then it will definaly improve it, only just see lots of little ones, but it's like anything, the more you put in/better you work at it... the better the results.

Posted by london-uk
Cheers mate I'l bear that in mind for future use. I can see that I'll be needing it. I've only had it for just over 24 hours (been super super careful when handling it) but have already noticed a minute scratch (scratchette in fact as it's so small , I actually have to sit for a minute with the iPod to actually find the tiny scratch).

lol nice, I actually bought a see through skin from

www.trendygeek.com

WELL worth the money, it's perfect... can't even tell its there. You get 3 in a pack, which should last a year! Sticks by static or summin, not sticky at all, same way the plastic sticks to new fone screens. Kept my screen, and the chrome on the back brand new for about 6 months, took them off (polised the white areas with brasso) and sold the ipod as BRAND NEW, and the buyer was extremley pleased.

Good investment for like $8

Posted by kk.226
MY mistake... used to be $8... looks like it's gonna be $12/$13

Posted by brownlad007
how about u buy one of my skins ? check pics below of my nano.

That's precisley why....

These's skins are clear, therefore preserving the beauty of the iPod.

Posted by brownlad007
i do clear backs also

Posted by maddav
Wow, they look good, I'll probably get my iPod after they get the Video skin in stock.

oooooo, below the belt brown

Posted by brownlad007
lol, what did i do :s

Posted by kk.226
@ maddav

Trust me mate they are 10 Times as good in the flesh... great item... I've used them on all my ipods, wouldn't use an iPod without it.

I can personally vouch for them!

Although im thinking of this for my new ipod.... Getting a grey iPod Sock... and putting the new pouch that comes with the ipod inside of the sock. That should keep it in good shape in my pocket...

Posted by brownlad007
what is wrong with buying a normal sock and using it ?

Posted by kk.226
@ Brown... what hat...?

Will still get scratched, if anything moving comes into contact with the chrome... thats why the iSheild (the clear skin i've been talking about) is a must.

Oh... ok then... that's not too bad.... YES, Everybody look at me...

*Points to self*

"I'm a geek"

I just know a few things... i've owned like 8 iPods...

Posted by solidsingh
well if that means your a geek, im a geek too, ive had over 50 phones

Posted by kk.226
I've prob had about 25/30 fones, but only really stuck to a 6310i tbh... rest lasted a few months... 6310i lasted about 3 years now... (3rd p910i coming 2moro Change fones through boredom

Change iPods through reason...

1) not to make a loss ( i buy from america, then sell in uk to make sure i break even after a few months use)

2) tend to buy a new one as soon as a newer version is available.

3) Don't keep for over 6 months incase it develops problems... bad abatteries etc.

How many ipods everyone else had?

Posted by london-uk
The iPod 5th gen is my third.

Anyway, just a word of warning if you intend to use the case/sleeve that comes with the new iPod. It's an extremely tight fit, so if you have any specks of dust/dirt on the iPod and then slide on the cover, I suspect you'll end up with scratching.

Posted by kk.226
hmm.... best thing i can think of is...

Getting the iShield.... then putting it in a sock...

I really don't like ANY cases on the market... spoils the look.

Posted by brownlad007
ipods ive had : 20gb 4th gen, mini 6gb, 1gb shuffle, now 4gb nano

Posted by maddav
I've had: 3rd Gen, 1st Gen Mini, iPod Nano and very soon iPod with Video.

I've still got my 3rd Gen and it's fantastic

Posted by kk.226
Yeah i loved the buttons on the 3rd gen... very nice! When i get my car, i'll have a 3rd gen hooked up to the sound system, so easy to use the buttons on the 3rd, especially when it's docked.
