Why you think it's crap mate? I use it on windows, perfect for me.

i use foobar for playback , really recommend it as it uses very less cpu (noticably less than winamp) and very less memory footprint.

Does just use too much memory and cpu for me... It is made for mac's and runs best on them
@shyam335, you can set winamp up so it will use very little cpu and memory, just search google for speed up winamp tutorial...

For playback winamp5.03 (last crap-free version) with classic skin-dramatically lowers cpu usage. For ripping to mp3 or wma format use WMP10 definitely- fast, easy, excellent rip.

For gods sake don't use wma... there is allways some license problems with it... Use mp3 or ogg instead...

i dunno, it doesn't work on my brother's PC either.
it gives an error when i start to playback audio files...
i tried every version, even the Pro version with a crack... but nothin' changed...
btw, thanks for all your posts.
i Downloaded iTunes, it uses too much CPU and isn't very good for just playing audio files.
i'll try foobar2000 now...
wich program do you reccomend for high quality CD ripping ?

I have used some ripper called "im too"..
But have you tried reinstalling audio codecs and see if it fixes winamp?

there is no licence problem. if you want wmp not to put copyprotection on ripped files, it only asks you to confirm that you know legal consequences of copying... blah blah. i've been using it for a long time now, with no problem. if you, however are inconvenient with it use audiograbber 1.83+lame 3.9 encoder.

i got audiograbber too, but i can't find the tool to improve the quality of my ripped mp3's...
i mean when i rip CD's with it, they're 32kpbs~, how to make them 180 or 320Kpbs ?

hmm i downloaded foobar, it's quite cool but it shows the file names not the ID3 tags, is there any way to change that ?

Once encoded to 32kbps it can't be improved. Download 'lame 3.93' encoder from the internet, unzip it to audiograbber folder. Then just start ag, 'mp3 settings', and under 'internal encoder' instead of default fraunhofer's encoder, chose lame. Rip at 256kbps, stereo, CHOOSE HIGH QUALITY!!!
