Digitel's Mango (CDMA) (Philippines)

Not many people know about it but Digitel came out with a service called Mobility Access Network for the Man on the Go (MANGO)... it's a "Wireless Internet-Ready Landline".

Gives you limited mobility which allows you to go around the neigborhood, Unlimited local calls to landline subscribers, wireless Internet connection of up to 153 kbps at Php 0.25 per minute and enhanced cordless handset with SMS capability of Php 0.80 per message plus other special features.

Subscription cost is Php 600/month plus VAT (php 660.00).

It actually uses CDMA at 1900mhz but with a local number prefix (02) so all landline calls within metromanila are free.

Range is 5km radius from their initial base station located in Digitel's office along Libis. Phase 1 expansion includes areas within SM North and New Manila.

Future expansion would utilize cellsites of Sun Cellular.

Those who have CDMA phones could have their units programmed for Php 200. There are units also available ranging from the regular cellphone sized units to landline with dialtone enhancement. Cost ranges from Php 3,500 to Php 8,000.

Another marketing coup by the Gokongweis using cellular technology (CDMA) packaged as a landline subscription.

ayos yan! i have two Motorola CDMA phones

uy mukhang panalo dyan ang sun ah !

Posted by dlreyes
Just take note that this service is different from Sun...

Sun uses GSM while Mango uses CDMA.

Sun has (0922) prefix while Mango has (02) prefix

Sun uses GPRS at 25 centavos per kb with the speed equal to about 50 kbps while Mango charges 25 centavos per minute with speed up to 153 kbps.

Sun charges Php 350 unlimited Sun to Sun calls while Mango charges Php 660 (Php 600 + 10%VAT) for unlimited local calls (as long as area code is 02).

really? broadband philippines is offering a wireless data service for consumers? similar to smart wi-fi/meridian? or different? How is this possible? Data over mobile? So wala kang phone unit?

Posted by dlreyes
For wireless broadband check www.airnet.com.ph

"The first mobile data service that delivers unbelievably fast speeds with true freedom of mobility anywhere within the service network."

Up to 1.4 Mbps data connection speed (typical user speeds of between 200 to 300 Kbps)
Fully portable anywhere within the network footprint (presently Makati)

Now let's go back to the topic

So, dlreyes, have you subscribed to Mango already?

How is it?

Posted by edsailormoon
my mum gave it to me for my b-day, dont know kung eto nga yung sa digitel, pero sabi nya airnet daw.. mukha talaga siyang landline na may antenna, kaya medyo nakakahiyang ilabas, ang maganda kasi sa kanya, pwede ka nang tawagan ng kahit na sino ng naka landline, tho sa nagyon, pldt pa lang pwede nyang tawagan and vice versa.. yung iba di pa nya natatawagan, like globelines, bayantel and eastern... hindi ko pa nata-try yung internet nya..

Posted by dlreyes
Most of us posting in this thread have it also... Do not be ashamed to bring it around for it is a novelty and a conversation topic... people stop and stare that 619 and myself have decided to take advantage of the situation and sell the service if anyone was interested.

I bring it always with me to test its signal...

Please note that Digitel's MANGO and Broadband's airnet (soon to be branded as OI) are different services though both are using CDMA. The advantage of Broadband/airnet is that their franchise is nationwide while Digitel is limited to some areas only.

sa eastwood malakas signal ko, pero ndi ako makatawag, palaging redial.. btw, do you have any tips on how to carry the unit around? i use a laptop bag, just wondering if you guys have better ideas?

Posted by 619
i use it inside our car...

have a question.. i have zte wp960bd, does your unit turn off by itself when the signal is poor? i experience this quite often when i'm inside a tunnel or at the basement of a carpark..

Posted by dlreyes
After some time it does... probably to save on power...

Thanks very much..

Any updates on Digitel Mango subs? Coverage? I'm interested to get one but I'm from Manila. Or it's better to get Broadband Phils' CDMA? Whatdya think guys? Thanks...

Posted by dlreyes
Digitel's franchise area is limited... not all of Metro Manila is covered. At present, only a 5km radius from their Libis office is being serviced. Their only advantage over Broadband's service is that you could get your own unit and have it programmed by Digitel for a minimum fee as long as it is compatible with the system.

Broadband's franchise area is nationwide and about 70% of Metro Manila is already covered.

greetings! welcome sa esato @brainiac

Posted by brainiac
Thanks ed, i also posted @ Airnet forum. Apparently on hold daw accpetance nila ng new applications. Seems like something is brewing abt their service.... what's it all about kaya?

Posted by peepol
I am interested with Digitel's Mango. Please help provide contact details for the subscription. Any update on the coverage so far?

Posted by cabuyao
Digitel is also offeirng the MANGO service in Laguna. Number starts with 049.

We tested the signal in Cabuyao last weekend and signal seems to be fine using the ZTE unit. We were also able to connect to the internet and went around the subdivision without getting disconnected.

However we only got ~115kbps.

Posted by 619
cabuyao.. 115kbps is the max speed of rx1tt dialup.. better than gprs' and landline's

What you are offering to the public is kinda slow to innovate... why dont you try to enhance your system more faster, so that you can accomodate the needs of your subscriber.."this is the real thing" that is happening now! i hope you are aware in"3G" Technology..that which is you can also use your Mobile Fone as a Modem to your laptop and PC.. with the speed of 672kbps for SMART their regular charge for That is php 10.00 per 30 mins..and their Video Calling is Still free till June 15, 2006, while GLOBE is still charging php 0.15 per kilobites to their web access with the speed of 1.4mbs to 1.8mbps until June 29, 2006.. i also called up your hotline in DIGIMango some of CSR that i talk with their are few selected areas that is only available in your mobile telephone..

Kala ko nga Nabili nyo na ang "Broadband Philippines" kc halos parehas lang kayo ng offer..Just what happend in "Meridian" their residential was been taken by SMART BRO..but their corporate PLAN is not..

P.S. YOU HAVE TO BE AWARE IN THE REAL THING....Para Hindi kayo Mahuli..at hindi masayang yung investment nyo dyan kung ala mag aavail..maganda sana! pa Cut ko sana PLDT line Namin...

Digitel's MANGO and Broadband Philippines' services are marketed differently from Mobile phone providers like Globe, Smart and Sun.

Although they utilize CDMA2000 and presently HAVE 3G EVEN BEFORE Globe, Smart and Sun (through data 1xrtt and EVDO) had theirs, their main market are landline subscribers in a particular area based on their franchise allocation by the NTC.

They have been lucky enough to have been restricted to a bigger area like Metro Manila as one contiguous area instead of a particular cellsite before it could be considered roaming.

They pit themselves not against Cellular Mobile Telephony Users but more of Wired Landline users.

MANGO and Broadband subscriptions are cheaper, have more features and provide limited mobility against fixed wired landlines.

You can try importing units from Verizon USA and just ask them to program your phone if you want additional features like camera, pda, access point to spread signal etc.

MANGO's Metromanila coverage is stated above. Their advantage over Broadband Philippines is that they can connect with PLDT, Bayantel, Globe, Smart and Sun with voice and text though Globe incoming text still has problems at times.

Broadband Philippines has 80% of MetroManila covered but could only connect with PLDT phones for Voice calls.

i paid php2000 to the digitel mango guys who collected the fee from our home not from their office. they told me that it'll take about a week before they can process my application. how come i have to pay before they process my application? am i being scammed or what?

Posted by bobstarsg
@waph, i dont think so,..... ganyan din ung proseso na dinaanan namin .... just keep your reciept , im sure me binigay na contact number / calling card ung rep nila,,,,,,, follow-up mo lang pag di dumating ung unit sa promised installation date nila .....mas mura na nga ngayon 2 thousand na lang, ..b4 we pay 5thousand plus .... tapos dahil sa kabundukan nga ung place namin we have to purchase a outdoor antenna pa .... sa place namin kapag ginagamit ko for internet connection i got 28.8 kbps lang .... mabagal pero pwede na rin kesa sa wala

Posted by mevie
may i know some updates for the service in digitel mango? if there is any expansion lately thru their service line...coz i heared lately that Globelines is already launch the SPEAK and SURF service.. wer in you can use your Phone and Internet at the same time., and it is wireless., in advance to digimango service is you only have to pay php 995.00 a month while enjoying unlimited calls to local landline and surf the net in a speed of 256 kbs w/o paying much of your usage..it is included to php 995.00 and they also offer a txt msgng service to their handset..its like a mobile phone also..

Posted by dlreyes
Globelines Speak n Surf I believe utilizes the power of CDMA2000 for their service areas so signal is very limited (this I was told and subject to verification).

Aside from the lock-in period of 24 months (Php 995/month) one has to pay Php 300 for the handset and modem for 24 months as well.

This service is quite promising IF the subscriber is within the area of coverage. (take note that business districts are not yet covered) taking into consideration of the unlimited data with speed of 256kbps and unlimited local voice calls.

hello guys,

Im new here, ca you please assist me. Im looking for a data card for my laptop using the CDMA 1X EV-DO technology. Are they selling these data cards (PCMCIA) in the Philippines? Im looking for a particular brand of data card, the Huawei EC500 EVDO Data Card or if its not available any data card that is compatible/backwards compatible with CDMA 1X EV-DO. If you have any info you can email me at uleeq_mahdeeq@yahoo.com. Thanks! Have a nice day!

Posted by dlreyes
@Eric, Span by Bayantel uses the same technology (CDMA2000) at 1900mhz like Digetel's MANGO and Broadband Philippines' MultiMedia Telephony.

Globe's Speak n Surf is also CDMA2000 but on 450mhz.

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a mobile device to surf w/ Mango? I use my O2 XDA w/ Globe, but much cheaper sana ang Mango, if I can find a reasonable device.

Reggie

Hi Guys!

My names Rovi and I'm a Sales Coordinator of Broadband Philippines. I was searching pages in the Philippines regarding CDMA and bumped into your forum. Nice discussion. Just wanted to join and correct some notions about our company and our products which is the FWT wireless landline and EVDO WiFi Internet. For any questions, just post it here and I'd be glad to reply to them. Or you could also YM me, my id is diamondbits. If ever you also want to get one, I'd be more than glad to assist you, especially with our Personal Broadband Service which is truly WiFi. Just connect it to your laptop and off you go. Thanks!
