Ive been using the water spirt level from sony ericsson which is gr8 (U can find this on your phone under fun and applications download - click on the world icon). Im looking for a similar application as a compass which uses the accelerometer.

I would like to change the direction of my phone and for the north/south to follow.

Does anyone know of such an application?

If so post the link here...

If that is possible U would have to always start by telling your phone where north is and then be very careful with the phone. Once U put it in your pocket U would have to calibrate it again. Otherwise U can just use the built in GPS =P

(I don't know exactly how the technique behind the iPhone's compass solution is.)

Yeah that one is good but we are looking for moving real time compass. If it is cloudy how could you find the sun or the moon

You can't have a "live" updating compass in the way that the iPhone has, because our phones don't have a digital compass to determine where Magnetic North is.. you can't use GPS to do that since GPS only gives you a location at best, it can't tell you which way you are pointing.
moved on to the Nexus One.. needs a better Android

Yh u're right. I wish i could use a software for my W995 for live compass but we need a magnetometer for a real time compass.
Latest phones are having a built-in magnetometer like nokia E52. [addsig]
