WAP.com is dead

29 December 2001
The leading WAP portal WAP.com does not exist any more. When entering their site, you are now redirected to TheFeature.com
When you enter the website WAP.com you now see this message: "As of the December 21, 2001, WAP.com discontinued it Web site activities. Wap.com will continue to publish its weekly newsletter for the next 6 months in alliance with THEFEATURE.com"

The WAP.com domain was originally held by Workers Assistent Program but was sold to the Norwegian company Wapfactory for EUR 500.000 / US 436.000 last Christmas. Their goal was to base their revenue stream from advertisers, but as we all now, this business model is not very lucrative at present.

WAP.com brought us reviews of wireless device and news about the wireless world. These services are now found on TheFeature.com. The large list of WAP sites reviewed by WAP.com seems to have disappeared on the move, but you will probably not miss them as Awooga, Gelon and AnywhereYouGo offers similar if not better listings.

TheFeature is owned by Nokia, but they states that "The opinions expressed on TheFeature are solely those of its writers and content providers, and are not official statements by Nokia or any of its business partners or affiliates"
