VOLS Concept Phone by Kddi
4 November 2006 by axxxr Here is an interesting concept phone by those boffins at Kddi Japan, called the "Vols" i have no clue what that means,my own interpretation would be that it speaks "Vol-umes" Speaks "volumes" on its design and form factor that is,I don't believe anything like thas has been done before as far as i know, where the screen slots in and pops out.Needless to say i like the idea, flip phones have always offered protection for the screen from scratching and general wear and tear, this i believe maybe the way forward for candybar handsets,i've no clue either if this will ever go into production but I could almost see a Sony Ericsson badge on this. source:andfortheupteenthtime

On 6 Nov 23:24 Dave wrote Looks fanstastic, but since the screen is hidden it renders the phone useless untill it's opened.. Since most clam shells have a small outer screen they still have some function when they are closed even if it's just a clock or to show you have a text message. This is just a brick. The concept looks very cool but in practice theres not much point unless they plan to market it as a designer phone. On 6 Nov 21:41 SHAD wrote looks a bit big and chunky, but apart from that the design is attractive On 6 Nov 18:16 Spiegel wrote its easy on the eyes but the screaan seem volatile to simple force, the design cool though just a screen improvement and its ready to role On 6 Nov 10:46 Battosai wrote Yup, reminds me of the Matrix phone. But altemyr is right, the screen will probably be the weakest and most expensive part of the phone. And the design could use a bit more work. On 6 Nov 09:59 altemyr wrote Nice design, but the weakest spot of the phone, the part that is thinnest and is drawn out of the body, and most likely to break if exposed to any kind of external force, will contain the most vulnerable and probably most expensive component of the phone, i.e. the display, that's not a very good idea. On 5 Nov 16:43 turnselfoff wrote didn't nokia show of a phone with a screen that hid under the keyboard? or was it the other way round? On 5 Nov 08:26 DoctorMantis wrote Not a bad idea - but it needs to be executed flawlessly in order to work well. On 5 Nov 01:06 etaab wrote It looks ridiculous.
