13 July 2004 by axxxr
Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications presents the "W21S," a 1X WIN supporting phone that features a 1.3MP camera and an infrared port. It also supports the newly introduced Flash and high capacity BREW Appli.

The main display is a 2.4", 240 x 320 dot (QVGA) LCD, and the subdisplay is a 1.1", 96 x 96 dot LCD. Memory Stick Duo is supported as a removable media. Copyrighted contents can be saved to the card. But, a Memory Stick Duo is not included in the package. As the antenna of this phone is internal, it has a fresh design. It also features the Sony-Ericsson-ish jog dial controller. To go with this is the "cross menu" organization allowing for intuitive operation.

A 1.3MP camera is featured, and a 4x linear zoom function is featured. Apart from being able to use the "Scene Selection Function" with recording optimization modes for sports, night, etc., users can also protect against their hands slipping by adjusting the shutter speed and amp output.

As a function to appeal to the AV function shift, ringers can be played in stereo using the stereo speakers. Also, the included recharging stand has "surround reflectors" that will help the spread of audio.

As a function to interact with AV products, another characteristic of this phone is the inclusion of an IR port. The "TV Remote Controller" EZ Appli comes preloaded, and the Sony Ericsson site also offers remote controllers for DVD and VTR.

This unit also supports EZ Navi Walker and has an internal digital compass to automatically rotate the map so that "up" is the direction in which the user is walking. Likewise, destination addresses can be automatically set by recognition of a QR code containing such information.

The size of this phone is 50 x 105 x 26mm (W x H x T), and it has a weight of 133g. The continuous idle time is 240 hours, and talk time 150 minutes. Advanced Wnn and POBox are used as Japanese conversion systems. Three body colors will be available: Energy Red, Healing Silver, and Future White.
