Nokia Makes Its First Appearance at World's Largest Annual Photo Imaging Convention

Seven years after introducing wireless image sharing to the world, Nokia is demonstrating its commitment to excellence in imaging by joining the world's photography leaders at the 2005 Photo Marketing Association (PMA) convention. At booth #4641 of the Orange County Convention Center,Orlando Florida.Nokia will be demonstrating not only its range of megapixel-plus imaging phones, but also new technologies that allow these high-quality images to be edited, shared, stored and printed.

"When Nokia took the industry's first steps toward mobile imaging in 1998, few people could have predicted that in less than a decade the camera phone market would grow larger than the conventional digital camera market, yet that is where we stand today," said David Watkins, director of imaging for Nokia. "In 2005, over 100 million megapixel-plus imaging phones will be sold worldwide, producing images that are suitable not only for quick e-mails and messages, but for capturing, saving and printing truly important moments."

Nokia is introducing its highest resolution and most feature-rich imaging phone for the Americas market, the 1.3 megapixel Nokia 6682 smartphone, at the 2005 PMA convention. Imaging features of the Nokia 6682 imaging smartphone include a 6x digital zoom, integrated LED flash, sequence mode for shooting up to six frames in rapid succession, self-timer and user-adjustable white balance and color tones. Also featured at the Nokia booth are the 1-megapixel Nokia 7610 and Nokia 6670 imaging phones.

As camera phones and smartphones converge, the technology allowing for the editing of images and video directly on the handset is becoming increasingly advanced. At PMA, device-based image editing, video editing and Movie Director software will be demonstrated on the newest Nokia imaging smartphones. Image editing software allows the addition of text and frames and for cropping, rotating or adjusting still pictures. Video editing software allows individual video clips to be merged together, still clips to be pulled from a video, and the addition of special effects and transitions to captured video content. Movie Director automatically adds music and special effects to captured video to add fun and excitement to everyday events in just a few simple steps.

Unique applications and accessories designed to facilitate the sharing of mobile images will be showcased in the Nokia booth. Examples include the Photoring image viewing application, the Nokia Image Frame and the Nokia Image Viewer. The Photoring image viewing application allows users to display a virtual slideshow right on their Series 60 smartphone -- complete with retro-style spinning photo previews, just like old fashioned slide projectors. For a slideshow experience suited for a larger audience, products such as the Nokia Image Frame and Image Viewer allow users to share their mobile images on the Nokia Image Frame's built-in LCD screen, or to a full-size TV screen from the Nokia Image Viewer.

At the Nokia exhibit, a number of demonstrations will show how captured mobile images can be easily transferred from an imaging phone and stored elsewhere, saving memory on the device, and protecting images if a phone is lost or stolen. The Nokia Lifeblog application creates a virtual diary from captured images and sent and received messages by automatically sorting them into a daily timeline. These images and messages can then be uploaded over the air, stored and shared using a Nokia Lifeblog compatible blog provider. Additionally, Nokia will be highlighting the storage of mobile images on a PC using the Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0 application with Nokia PC Suite for easy transfer and cataloging of pictures.

New technology including the new Nokia XpressPrint solution will be showcased, demonstrating how high-quality prints can be made using the latest imaging phone technology. The Nokia XpressPrint solution bundles a number of printing options into a simplified user experience. Along with Bluetooth image transfer and MMC card exchange, the Nokia XpressPrint solution includes PictBridge connectivity, allowing some new and upcoming Nokia imaging smartphones to connect directly to a number of compatible printers via a USB cable with no PC needed. Also being exhibited in the Nokia booth are the newest commercial printing kiosks, which allow users to easily create professional prints at retail locations around the country.
