13 February 2008

Sony Ericsson is delighted to announce that its W910 Walkman phone has been awarded Best Handset at the GSM Association's 13th Global Mobile Awards 2008.

Launched last year, the W910 Walkman phone is designed for entertainment; whether music, 3D games, video, or high-speed Web access. It's also geared to let consumers choose their music just the way they want it. Applications such as Shake control enable them to flick the phone to control games or skip and shuffle between music tracks while SenseMe(TM) lets them discover music to match their mood and tempo. With its 1GB Memory Stick Micro(TM) provided in box, the W910 Walkman phone can hold over 900 songs* with room for plenty more thanks to its expandable memory.

"We are very proud to receive such a prestigious award for what has proved to be a very popular product," says Dick Komiyama, Sony Ericsson President. "The W910 Walkman makes it quicker and easier to transfer or download music. It's also about thinking beyond music, to games, videos and the Web."

Since the launch of the W800 Walkman phone in August 2005, more than 57 million Walkman phones have been sold worldwide. The Walkman phone range has seen rapid expansion, most recently with the launch of the W980 Walkman phone at this year's Mobile World Congress. This latest Walkman phone promises to get the most out of consumers' music with superior clear audio sound, storage for 8,000 songs, and Walkman on Top experience that allows users to control all of their music from the outside of their phone.

Judges' comments: "The Sony Ericsson W910 is a superb all-rounder. A compelling, easy to use design that has captured the imagination of consumers around the world in 2007."

NOKIA sucksssssssssssssssss
By kayslay on 18 Feb 18:27
This phone is pretty good but people aren't thinking about the class of phone. I read another comment and like he says, the award isn't for the "smartphones". This is a music phone, more affordable and easy to use. with a great design and software that isn't rediculously tough to boot on your pc. My girlfriend has a nokia- a xpressmusic one and hers is so bulky and takes up more space than anyphone I've ever had. I've owned sony ericsson before and theyre really good phones. they deserve to win

I have been using SE mobile since K750 and W800 and I must said that W910 look sexy and smooth and the sounds "Rock" !

Is this some sort of joke?? This phone feels so cheap and plastic. The keypad is fucking diabolical. If they can't get the joystick right, its the keypad. SE have lost their way in phone designs lately. All their phones look the bloody same. "Oh great, another 2mp walkman phone(!)".

The Nokia 6500 classic shits all over the w910i.

music phone without a standard headphone jack wins the prize? makes no sense.

Good call. Big screen, well featured for a non-smartphone (to be honest a lot of UIQ3 apps are a waste of time, this phone can run j2me apps like Widsets and Opera Mini just fine) and it's a good blend of good camera, great music features and gimmicks like the accelerometer. Being a non-smartphone, its main function as a phone isn't swamped by the other features too.

The winning phone can't be a UIQ phone, because it has to be accessible by the general public. The P1i and W960i are both smartphones and so they only appeal to a small percentage of the phone buying masses. It also must be affordable by most phone buyers which rules out phones such as the N95. I believe phones like the N95 wouldn't get the award also because it is overloaded. It appeals to a techy, sure, but to the general public it is a whole bunch of unneeded features.

I agree that design is a massive factor too. The public want a phone which looks good, and I'm sorry to say, but many Nokias arent cutting it in the design department. Newer ones like the N81, N82 and N96 are looking better, but the N95 is a massive, ugly looking thing. The W910i is light and slim and looks great, and I would know, I've seen an N95 and a W910i just today! :)

i like dis cell phone

about ''dito'' i'd say that nokia are not that good or nice... its so sensitive... like my 6360 i dropped it and the sound gone bad... and also nokia phones are so huge... well not all of them... but most of thier phone... its too big in your pocket... so i got this new phone w910i its slim.. and its really good.... i like it....
By xavier on 14 Feb 18:04
yeahh i have this phone.... well its really good... i mean the cam is good... sound is good... but i got the gold one... i thought the coulus was nice but i realize that the black one is better... well i cant change it now

but its still goo though
By xavier on 14 Feb 17:57
I do not think that this phone is the best handset. In my opinion, SE P1i is much better and it is also touchscreen smartphone { or W960i} what about nokia? they also have phones, which are much better than w910 ? I am really surprised with the choice.
By dito on 13 Feb 18:25
I owned one for about 2 months it was OK but no good if you already sync a P series on the same PC you cannt do it so I got rid and got a W960 (now that is a nice piece of kit)

I am not sure what was revolutionary about a slider phone design, or exactly which of its features were ever going to scare the competition! the only thing new was the "shake thing" which was in my opinion a total waste of time, you press a "tiny hard to locate button" then shake the phone to change tracks. much easier to just press the nice big next track button! and you dont end up looking like some kind of nobber in the street waving the thing around as it didnt get it right first time.
Nice phone but award winner? they just have to be joking...
By NitroFan on 13 Feb 13:45
design is probably a massive factor affecting this decision. function is all too average, but the design was revolutionary and still incorporated features to scare the competitors!

and to 'ese' i didnt know that they were so unreliable! if that is the case then perhaps they pushed design a little too far! also im surprised that you were able to get four exchanges, would seem a little strange.
By atillathehunch on 13 Feb 11:18
Yeahhhhhh Babyyyy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sony Ericsson Snatched the award again, SE Rokkkkssssssss!!!!
Previous winner is K800i Cyber-shot phone
By Fahadkhan on 13 Feb 06:26
eh why? this is the worst phone i have ever had! it looks good but it died on me 4 damn times! 4 times of exchanges and never ending headache!

this thing doesnt deserve the award!

it also moves abit like abit loose when slider is open.
By ese on 13 Feb 04:26
ditto chowchow :)

but anyway congrats! :)
By razec on 13 Feb 03:22
