A new statistic for the Swedish market shows that Ericsson has now passed Nokia as the most popular manufacture of mobile phones. This does not apply to the number of devices sold. Nokia is still on the top of this list.
We are producing phones a fast as we can says Roger Bolander, Head of SonyEricsson, Nordic division to Dagens Industri (DI).

Statistics from the consumer site Pricerunner where buyers compare products before they buy, shows that the interest in Ericsson phones have doubled in 2001. The four most popular phones are all Ericsson phones. Nokia's popularity is going down from 50 to 30 percent in one year.

Ericsson started to climb the list when they released the T65 in September 2001, and the largest rise came when T68 was released in end of October last year.

According to Geab, Sweden's largest mobile phone store, the huge popularity has not given any impact on number of mobile phones sold. Nokia is still leading the race. Ericsson T65 and T68 emerged on Geab's top-ten list in December.

"The reason why T65 not was given a higher rank on the list in December was because Ericsson could not deliver the phones we wanted. The phones we received was sold out at once" says Anna Bjerkelius from Geab.

"We may have lost market share globally, but this does not applies for the Nordic countries. We increases our production capacity all the time, and will in a short time be able to mach the demand" says Roger Bolander.
