Nokia announce the Nokia N82

14 November 2007 by Olav Hellesų-Knutsen

Nokia today expanded the N-Series by announcing the N82. N82 has 5 Megapixels camera with autofocus, HSPDA, WLAN and GPS with free maps.

N82 is the second model from Nokia with a 5 megapixles camera and auto-focus. The Nokia N95 is still located at the top of the list when we talk about features but N82 is not far behind. N82 looks very much like the N95 specification wise. N82 has the more usual block form factor compared to the N95 slider. Current N95 retail price is 570 Euro. Expected retail price for the N82 is 450 Euro. Both models have the same display resolution of 240x320  pixels, built in GPS, the same operating frequencies, 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus, video recording etc. Seems like Nokia is phasing out the N95 in favour to the N82 and the N95 8GB version. We can not see any good reason why anyone would go for the more expensive N95 now that the N82 is announced.

With the tools to discover the places and moments worth capturing, and the capabilities to capture and share them instantaneously, the Nokia N82 offers photography enthusiasts an enhanced camera experience.

Discover, capture and share
The Nokia N82 enables you to explore your surroundings and find your way with navigation and routing; document your adventures with the high quality imaging capabilities; and instantly share your experiences with one click upload to the web.

Featuring A-GPS, 5 megapixel camera, Xenon flash, Carl Zeiss optics and internet connectivity, the Nokia N82 also incorporates all the multimedia computer features common to Nokia Nseries. Like its predecessor the Nokia N95, the Nokia N82 is the latest epitome of a truly converged device that is not one thing but is many.

"The evolution of camera capabilities in mobile devices has been extremely fast over the past years. With the Nokia N82 we have reached such a superior level in image quality, speed and ease of use that not only does it outperform any other cameraphone on the market, but it's also a very credible alternative for single purpose digital still cameras," says Satu Ehrnrooth, head of Nokia Nseries Cameras Category, Multimedia, Nokia. "In addition to the high-end camera, the Nokia N82 also enables you to navigate and discover new places, enjoy your music, browse the web, play games, chat online and be part of the global web 2.0 community wherever you go.  Thanks to the wireless broadband connectivity, convergence and yet again increased performance, the Nokia N82 is all you need in your pocket!"

Discover the world
The powerful A-GPS and preinstalled* Nokia Maps help you explore and locate new places, whether in another country or just around the corner. All Nokia N82 standard sales packages come with a free voice guided navigation trial*, and you can purchase additional features, such as city guides and longer subscription to the navigation.

With access to more than 15 million points of interest, you can locate and navigate to the most interesting sights, bars or restaurants wherever you are. You can also send map excerpts and routes to friends by MMS or save map screen shots to the gallery.

Capture your experiences
With a 5 megapixel camera, powerful Xenon flash and Carl Zeiss optics, the Nokia N82 delivers remarkably vivid photographs, even in low-light conditions. Fast camera activation, autofocus with a dedicated autofocus assist lamp, fast reloading between shots and DVD-like quality video capture make it a truly convenient and credible tool for capturing and telling your life stories.

Thanks to the 2GB microSD card in the standard Nokia N82 sales package*, you can store up to 900 high-resolution photos or up to 84 minutes of high quality video on the device.

"The Nokia N82 gives the best ever camera and navigation experience in one stylish premium device. Just imagine what kind of possibilities this will open up and how much richer your every day life experiences can be! The sophisticated design and glossy looks appeal to men and women who are conscious of their style and want to impress with the latest in technology," Satu Ehrnrooth continues.

Share your stories
With high speed Wi-Fi connectivity and one-click upload to online communities, the Nokia N82 makes sharing your experiences and discoveries easy. When viewing a picture or video, simply one press of a button starts uploading it while you carry on using the device for other purposes.

Or you can impress your friends with multimedia slideshows - complete with music and effects - on the high resolution display or on a compatible TV.

The Nokia N82 comes with the new content driven 3D multimedia menu and includes a convenient orientation sensor that rotates the user interface automatically between horizontal and portrait mode. For quick and easy access to entertainment content, the Nokia N82 also supports the Ovi family of Nokia internet services, including Nokia Music Store, N-Gage games** and Nokia Maps.

Will that battery explode??

giggety on Nov 14 2007

If it does explode... it will probably need to be charged every 2hrs.... lol

SENaz on Nov 14 2007

Oh my, right up k850s alley. Wonder how well the camera works.

erotomaniac on Nov 14 2007

anon on Nov 14 2007

SE looking type of nokia, with a xenon flash?? copy cats

thokozani on Nov 14 2007

Well, at least, Nokia are able to announce and ship models much faster than SE and this one will be available before the W960, which was announced 5 months ago!

benitorios on Nov 14 2007

anon: "i nearly escaped death."

So that means you are dead. You failed.

LasseMan on Nov 14 2007

this phone made K850i looks like a big fat joke.!

ha on Nov 15 2007

looks like a K550 to me

jar on Nov 15 2007

Copy cats? Because they finally smartened up to use Xenon Flash? Since when did SE own Xenon technology? Also looks like the Flash is larger in size; wondering if brighter.

Although the back looks really cheap, the buttons will be the test of success for this unit, as they look too flush.

New app for GeoTagging photos (flikr anyone?) cannot wait to use that. 30fps VGA video recording on main camera, A-GPS, and WiFi in a candy bar format that to ME is not ugly ... this could VERY WELL be my next phone (K850i purchase is in standby).

Anyone see NOW why SE should have launched the K850i with Symbian UIQ Smartphone OS? This rumored P3i better be a pimp phone (as ALL flagship phones should be)!

Prom1 on Nov 15 2007

looks ugly,k850 is a beauty

anon on Nov 15 2007

like the features....
too bad the design sucks

chowchow on Nov 15 2007

The phone has grace but look at the keys... NOKIA made a stupidity. The pencil Key is removed.

Aamir03336191919 on Nov 15 2007

Copy cats. Xenon flash can't in any way improve the camera quality.
it is the ccd processor which is important and not the lens and flash. these (Nokia) stupid fools don't know that they can't beat SE K850 in any way even if they tie up with Nikon. Because Nikon themselves buy cameras from Sony. Nobody ca ever beat Sony and Sony Ericsson.

BKM on Nov 15 2007

Aamir03336191919-- and SE dont use stupid keys??? P900 P910 K810 W880......

yuyu on Nov 15 2007

Hey Nokia haters. The future is staring you in the face. SE sucks, sucks, sucks, and when done sucking they find a new and improved way to suck. Nokia is kicking their ass.

ByeByeSE on Nov 16 2007

planetX on Nov 16 2007

I really think it's a sad state of affairs when you guys have an argument about who's best i.e. nokia v sony ericsson. Who cares? nokia AND sony are big corporations. Stop being company bitches and get a life!!!!!
Anyway i bet they are both made in the same factory, and probably made from the same basic components!

PE on Nov 16 2007

nokia time is over now. there is no competition to sony.

gothicmanhamid on Nov 17 2007

This is the best keypad ever. You people should try it first. The keypad is used in 8xxx series, N91 also. And i have used n91. it is the best phone i have used in terms of typing.

I hate when everyone bashes nokia. I am an SE Fan. But think again. SE is no longer hearing your wants.

rehamer on Nov 17 2007

"yes the battery will definitely explode.i have this cellphone the battery exploded and i nearly escaped death."

Ahahaha, you sir are a complete prat, please stay off the internet.

This phone is'nt out yet so how could it have exploded?! You muppet.

Also Nokia's battery problem was only limited to one kind of battery "BL-5C" a battery im running in a 6600 with no heat problems.

SE fansboi's are just upset with having their noses put out of joint because Nokia are on a roll.

Im a SE fan but at the moment there are better offerings.

notanon on Nov 18 2007

W810 ROCKS !!!!!!

REO on Nov 18 2007

This is the best phone on the market right now! Will wait for the SE P5i!

Eroda on Nov 18 2007

ref gul1, try to make sense the next time you comment!

end on Nov 18 2007

where is the 3.5 jack. Please, don't tell me its on either 2 sides. Please, put it like the n82 or n91.

rehamer on Nov 18 2007

Very 'Siemens' keypad. Looks like a phone from the late 90's. Anywho, not really impressed.

JIBJIB on Nov 19 2007

i am waiting for N82, i can't wait anymore

jigneshrajpara on Nov 19 2007

Many good things packed in a plasticy toylike box......i guess those N people need some style sense. What crap of a box is tht??yuxxxxx.
And no prizes for guessing even before using it is tht like every other trademark N-phones, this one will also be a hell of a slow working plastic box.
Special effects.....XPLODING BATTERIES in patented NOKIA style!!!HAHAHAHAHA

snk316 on Nov 19 2007

features r good! look is worst and d fone is very big. d DZINE IS QUITE OLD. N95 LOOKS 100 TIMES BETTER,

anon on Nov 20 2007

Looks like Nokia is adopting everything that was Sony Ericsson's- flair, innovation and now with N82, looks too. And Sony Ericsson seems keen to go back to the stone age and adopt Nokia's approach which lost them market share. Way to go SE!

mode on Nov 20 2007

im liking some of the features of this model. although i must admit im a little sceptical of the "DVD-like quality video capture"! i would like to believe nokia, but how many times has that been said?!

atillathehunch on Nov 20 2007

well I prefer sonyericsson p1....

dimitri on Nov 20 2007

I have seen the battery explode as well. Burned an ear off.

manius on Nov 21 2007

i like it,but i would be in many colours

waqas on Nov 24 2007

ESTA DE HUEVOS PINCHE CELULAR CULERO, LOS PUTOS NOKIA SON DE MI PREFERENCIA

JOSETADEO on Nov 26 2007

A lot better than the useless K850, the N82 have amazing features, nice design...SE is going down!

Erodaland on Nov 26 2007

Make sure you have your charger handy. N82 has shorter talk time than n95. You'll need a charger for the car, office, home. Forget about battery life if you use the apps alot. Plus, its another nokia "giant" phone w/super slow Symbian OS. Like the candybar design though, no slider to break.

EddieAdams on Nov 26 2007

these stupid fanboys make me sad and ashamed that I like SE. currently own a t68i, k750i and s500i

grin on Nov 27 2007

Built in stereo speakers? Fantastic! That means I can turn up my boom box on the tube or the bus and listen to my music wherever I go and also allow others to hear my fantastic and eclectic taste in artists and music styles.

Boyakasha! Thank you Nokia, for bringing me this joy.

See you all in the libraries.

Buttoneer on Nov 27 2007

pls check the specs, xeron flash se used in k800 until now, and copy cats nokia follows. and if its not good why must use the same tech as se?
and by the way, this stupid phone looks really sucks big time! check those china made phones, looks very similar to the new n82. ha ha ha!!!

se on Nov 30 2007

This phone looks good and haves a lot of functions but it haves issues to
5mpx camera - one of the strongest ones... but nokia dosen't likes the natural colors and interpolates them to more sharp ones
16 mil display - its big, bright and looks super... but it's a battery killer
gps - u know anytime where u are and where to go... but its not the best gps system... its connecting like "loading... please wait" like q3 on a pentium 1... and its a battery killer
wifi - it's good to have free net... but it's a battery killer
symbian - a lot of application and tones and tones of features... but every feature kills the batery... first it's the symbian
Nokia is giving us full option phones (all-in-one) but they dont fully test them before launching :(
The greatest issus are:
Problems with all Symbina Based Nokia devices
Batery Lifetime

Steve on Dec 02 2007

nop i dont that battery will explode.... the users are not stupid, everyone will keep track of his batt. Nokia is the best, but Sony is a hard competetor. the K850i lens is not Carl Zeiss, this is one, second AF features a guide lamp on the Viewfinder (screen of N82) but i doupt this screen size is enough for even a mid-professional.

This is the Real old name for the N95 .... it was planned to be named N82...but changed at the last moment.

I think this keypad should be better, this one is similar to the Sony's P990i.

Overall, it seems to be another good, practical phone from nokia.

Thanks to all.

nani on Dec 02 2007

I'm confident that nokia did a very good job. I have no doubts that this will be the best cell phone in the market. This corporation has never made a big mistake in the software. The design is the most beautiful i ever saw since n70. Wonderful job made by nokia

ASAD on Dec 09 2007

ooo lol guyz nokia is shit they copy from everyone and many of the components nokia has are imported because nokia didnt had the tehnologi to make ceel phone nokia is finladeze and se is japenese and about the n82 u cant know how good it is only after u test it to have it in your hands but se alway was good.
