LG Electronics today announced the LG-KU990 (LG Viewty) mobile phone with a 5.1 megapixel camera.

LG Electronics today announced plans to launch 'LG Viewty' (Model: LG-KU990), its very first professional-level high feature camera phone, destined to steal the spotlight.

LG Mobile, which led design innovation in the mobile handset arena last year, is once again turning the tables on mobile phone trends by expanding their product category to introduce series of high feature phones.

The 'LG Viewty', the first handset representing LG Mobile's new feature-oriented category, combines ultimate functionality with sensational style that one can expect from LG Mobile. The name 'LG Viewty' has been chosen to encapsulate the enjoyment of viewing and sharing high-quality photos. This is made possible through the large LCD screen and extensive functionality of the camera phone.

LG Viewty LG-KU990Users of the 'LG Viewty' will be able to enjoy a complete mobile digital imagery experience. Boasting its 5.1 megapixel camera with manual focus and image stabilizer features, the 'LG Viewty' takes high quality photographs with endless possibilities to allow users to enhance their images through the extensive editing features of the phone.

The sleek handset, whose size defies its amount of features, introduces world's first 120 fps video recording feature in a mobile camera phone. A single-click connection to YouTube allows users to share their very own film moments with others on the internet.

Dr. Skott Ahn, CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company says "This is a very exciting time for LG Mobile. The LG Black Label Series and our collaboration with PRADA have cemented our position as an innovator in design and style. With the launch of the new 'LG Viewty we are now also proving our commitment to technical enhancement and look forward to taking the feature phone category by storm."

The 'LG Viewty' which will be available for buy from October, will first be revealed during the IFA 2007 in Berlin on August 31, 2007.

Update
The LG Viewty is a camera phone with unparalleled functions. This handset provides quality matching or exceeding that of conventional digital cameras, said Dr. Skott Ahn, CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. With some of our earlier handsets, LG emphasized great style. Now we are focused on functionality and features as well. LG is always trying to identify unspoken customer needs and create new mobile trends.

With the LG Viewtys manual focus function, which no other camera phone provides, users can take more control over their pictures. In addition, the built-in image stabiliser helps record clearer images. Users can personalise their unique pictures by writing on them digitally using the 3.0-inch LCD screen and attached stylus; they can also use the stylus and screen for working with the LG Viewtys built-in digital editing software. And, when theyre done, pictures and video can be easily uploaded to the internet.

Borrowing from the high-end digital camera industry, ISO 800 and SmartLight technology help create bright pictures, even indoors and at night. Users are able to enjoy a wider and much more vivid display than with most phones on the market through the large full-colour touchscreen and Mobile XD engine. The handset can even recognise handwritten text input via the stylus.

The phone also records video at up to 120 frames per second, the highest frame speed ever for a handset camera. This allows users to seamlessly watch DVD-like content, even in slow motion. It also features a quick search-enabled jog wheel, which helps users quickly raise or lower the volume during calls as well as easily zoom in or out when taking photos or video.

The sleek black surface is one big touchscreen on the front, with the 5.1-megapixel camera and jog wheel on the back. And the intuitive user interface makes it easy to use right out of the box, with many controls similar to digital cameras.

The LG Viewtys highly advanced features even include the ability for users to create and edit their own video files right on the phone and then upload them direct to YouTube.com. The phone is also Google-friendly, with a fully-equipped package from the ubiquitous web portal for mobile internet users. Additionally, users can still enjoy terrific voice quality and high speed HSDPA connectivity at 3.6Mbps.

Yeah, this phone actually looks quite nice, for an LG. I think the K850's 5MP is reportedly better than the N95's... but SE's video is what lets it down now, 120fps is mental! I'm glad LG are innovating better than Samsung now, SE had really get their act together.

I wasn't gonna comment on this but I can never resist anything having a go at the iPhone.

So, be fair Gerry, the iPhone is a top end feature phone (or dumbphone as people here call them) with a great interface, let down by the fact that it doesn't have any usable features thanks to awful data management. The Nokia 3510 (remember that?) could stomp all over the iPhone.

I disagree. the logo is no more (or less) cheap looking than any other brand. the text is very formal and the composition is very tidy for a logo. it's better than the old Goldstar logo of the 80's and 90's anyway :)

i think you'd have a point if the text was in white (or black on a silver phone) print, a la Nokia, but it's in chrome and looks classy.

anyway.. it's incredibley pedantic to pick onthe brand design, but it's actually a great compliment to LG since that's the only negative you could find with the phone. hehe :)

I always hate the LG logo. specially the face like thing. it really looks cheap. they should not put it in the face of the handset. they should just used another name like the prada thing.

SeF, i've owned ever P series phone and am very protective of the platform. but you have to agree, the P990, although very good, was very late in coming, and the P1i is a disappointing replacement since it uses the same design as the M600. no D-pad, no proper qwerty keyboard and no HSDPA are a major let down. the P series used to offer the best in it's class, but the likes of LG, Samsung and certainly HTC, are offering a much better package these days and that's odd. SE have obviously turned their attention to the mainstream and budget markets, and fair play to them, i think they offer the best phones in this secter. they have a long way to go in order to become the best in the high end market no though. the P1i (and it pains me to say this) just doesn't cut it compared to the rest.

Duh, you have no idea what you're talking about. Sony phone cams have been the best for a long time. the K800/810 has the best cam you can get (pixel for pixel) and the K850 promises to be even better (dont trust any reviews based on proto-type beta firmware, the phone isn't out yet).

SE, did you even read what i said about LG being the fist with this kind of phone (LG Prada). Think, man!!

again another first for LG to utilize 120fps video recording when the other phone makers does not have this. sony cameras suck by the way that's why i don't buy them.

I completely disagree about the P1i UI. It's really organized and well designed. I think the only one better is the iPhone UI and Prada design. So this UI will be nice.

As for the camera for this, it might sound nice, however I think Sony Ericsson will still do better. LG had a 5mp phone before but did not have good results. But hopefully this will be an improvement. I can't say that this one would be bad since no one reviewed this phone yet.

Nokia still need work on their phones. Hopefully they will start improving like LG, Samsung, and Sony Ericsson.

What's the video format? i dont think it'll come close to samsung F500 video quality wise even with that 120Fps video.

and Camera? highly doubt it because SE has been supported by Sony which was an expert for decades in it's imaging department.

P1 UI messy? i dont think so, it's well organized and logical those who said that have never used SE GUI before i guess :)

AFQIE, you're not related to 'FLIP' by any chance are you? The KU990 is a replacement for the LG Prada which was the first purely touch based phone to be developed and is about a year old. it is Apple who stole the idea from LG. I really do wish people would think before they comment.

Anyway... although this new LG is not a smartphone, i think this will be the best media phone on the market when it's released in October. the addition of the 5MP cam (with image stabilizer) and HSDPA means it stomps all over the iPhone. SE has really under performed with the it's latest P series offerings. the P990 had it's problems but the P1i is looking pretty awful with a low spec cam, no HSDPA and aging, messy interface. the P990 may be chunkier, but it's much nicer to use than the M600 so i cant understand why SE would keep the M600's design. Nokia are spending time and money in the wrong areas. it's laughable to think that the industry leaders are still yet to explore the possibilities of using touchscreens. in fact, they spend so much time trying to make sure they have the highest spec phones in the market, they're neglecting too develope the means to power the things. the N series (namely the N80 and 95) are practically useless due to the fact that they need recharging 2-3 times a day. i WAS going to buy a HTC Touch next month but i thing this new LG has stolen my heart. i may even get both since i have a business phone and personal phone. this would be the first time i've considered not owning either an SE or Nokia since mobile phones first became mainstream.
