K750i to w800i |

ok so i have a k750i and although i am really happy with it i really love the w800i. now the only differences i am aware of between the 2 are.
1.Flight mode not available on k750i
2.W800i has a more specialised mp3 player(i think)
3.Instead of "new events" button on k750i w800i has a music nutton.
4. 512mb msd instead of 64mb msd
so my question is this would it be possible to buy the w800i facia(available on ebay) and upgrade the firmware to w800i firmware and effectively turn my k750i into w800i like the V800i to z800i. just wanting to know if you think it could be possible in the future? |

WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA!!
Hold on a second
What the hell is happening?
You can flash your k750 to a w800? Someone PLEASE tell me what this actually does. Does it just improve the mp3 or something, and does it get rid of k750 features like autofocus
this is very intresting.....

The W800i has autofocus! It just turns the phone into a w800i, well except for the casing
check the spec out here

and they'll change your phone on ebay for £21 delivered back to you,

I was thinking of doing this too. However, if you do the math, it's not really all that practical (unless you already own a K750 that is):
In U.S. dollars...
K750 = $370
Flash K750 with W800 firmware = $30 + $15 shipping
W800 case = $20 + $10 shipping
512 MB Memory Stick Duo = $75 + $5 shipping
HPM-70 headset (Walkman headset from W800) = $30 + $5 shipping
(Note that you can't even get the HPM-70 yet and know one really knows what the price will be. Similar Sony Walkman headsets sell from $30 to $50. I realize that SE had a price of $16 on their web site, but after seeing the headset first-hand, I'm sure that was a mistake.)
So... You're looking at around $560 (give or take $20 or so in either direction) to purchase a K750 and convert it into a W800. That's more expensive than what the W800 is selling for right now and I'm sure that the prices will continue dropping over time. Not to mention the fact that you have to send off your brand new phone for a few days to have it flashed, you take the risk that SE will block future firmware updates on hybrid W750's, you have to struggle with replacing the case and risk damaging your brand new phone in the process, and you don't have access to the better Walkman (HPM-70) headset yet.
Taking all of this into consideration, it's MUCH better to just buy a W800 outright now that they are available, and that's exactly what I did (and I LOVE it!).
The only way it makes sense to go for the hybrid is if you already have a K750, already have a bigger Memory Stick, or you really like the K750 case (or a combination of the two cases) better.

But flashing my K750i to a W800i means that a get the posh black K750i casing with all the music features of the W800i but without the bright orange plasticy casing Thats why i got my firmware upgraded to the W800i anyway.

voda_jon could you please post some pictures of that? I'd really like to see that effect with black covers, but you got me curios about grey/orange too... |

i think ill stick with the k750, theres not too much difference, and im not too bothered about flight mode, and the 'W', and thats about all the worth knowing upgrades from it i beleive, so instead of paying that much more, i beleive sticking with a k750 is a good choice, unless anyone wants to prove me wrong (please, prove me wrong, as i have mp3 and a major useage on my phone)

Well i got my K750i back from > HandyMobilez UK < this morning, unlocked and flashed to W800i firmware, and its perfect. No other word to desribe it, no problems so far and the flight mode is so useful i find already.
Would highly recommend doing this guys, (plus i keep my fantastic K750i cover) no need for the orange plastic toy effect
