I am not sure if this is the right forum to post this, or if this will go down well with the mods, but let me know and I'll do what's right.
Its just that I am sick and tired of the attitude of a number of moronic and self-conceited (and self-deceived!) people who want to treat every Nigerian as trash.
I attempted to purchase a license for ProfiMail for use on my 9500 yesterday but got the shocker of my life when I was told that my order could not be processed because "your country is on the US export prohibition list".
See; its either my card is good or its not. To put a blanket restriction on all of us is idiotic.
I am not a terrorist, and even if I were its not like a key for ProfiMail would enable me develop WOMD (weapons of mass destruction).
If its an anti-corruption thing, some empty heads need it put into their hollow skulls that not all Nigerians do illegal. I am a honest, straight-shooting citizen of this planet, for crying out loud. I have NEVER cheated one man of a kobo. I have NEVER stolen from any man.
My only offense is that I carry a Nigerian passport. How would anyone respond if I was stupid enough to say that ALL Americans are stuck-ups? That's just as crappy and untrue as this generalised treatment of Nigerians.
You want to register a domain name, some nitwits want you to go through all manner of protocols no-one else is subjected to.
All I wanted was to have fully-functional ProfiMail on my commie. And I wanted to do it the right way. Is that too much to ask for?
I know a distinguished gentleman who embarked on a trip to the Uk recently. At the entry airport, the security conducted a search but found nothing. Next thing, he was asked into a room for a strip-search. The smart fellow took a good look at them and told them off. He asked them to put him back on a plane to Nigeria rather than subject himself to such violation.
That's my stand too: I boycott people and organisations who can't see beyond their thin, long noses and go somewhere else where sensible people exist. Someday, hopefully, these moronic mindsets will give way to true fairness.
I am proud to be Nigerian. Contrary to what some may think or say, Nigerian is not spelt C-O-R-R-U-P-T.
If some people can't live with that....

I suspect a lot of it's because of all the scam emails and '419' scams that come from Nigeria that make people suspicious - but that US companies' policy is really over the top! I don't discriminate towards Nigeria, not everyone is bad, AYA you sound like a decent and trustworthy man for a start  I'd trade with you any day!
Sounds like a bit of old fashioned stereotyping to me by that US company

Looking at Nigeria's reputation in the area of online scams, most people are not aware that Nigeria accounts for less than 10 per cent of all online fraud. The Israel, Russia and several other European states rank much higher. That's official.
So what's the fuss over Nigeria about?

I was also discriminated against when I tried to open a PayPal account.
Perception is that Nigeria is a difficult country to do business with because of a perceived culture of corruption...this will only change over time when the government has instituted strong frameworks for fighting corruption...does the whole Vodacom/Vee Mobile saga ring a bell?

Accepted. But in a world where everyone preaches equity, fairness and justice, how come people still adjudge me guilty (so to speak) without just cause?
Fairness demands that I be treated on my own merit; not that of someone else I may never even have met, and of whose actions I certainly do not approve of.
Does it make it right? Do I have to shrug my shoulders and accept it?

What a bunch of ignorant morons!
This happens because those people are complete internet iliterates, and because of those "nigerian based" emails everybody gets, they think that all Nigerians are scammers.
This is a very difficult issue to handle, but maybe the government of nigerian should try to grab the REAL scammers from Nigeria in order to clean the Nigerian "tag".
Because of a few, all the others are put in the same sac...

Batesie has made a valid point there in the sense that it really does not matter what Nigeria's position is on any list. Even if my country topped that list, it still would be wrong for anyone to apply hasty generalization of all Nigerians. It is unjust. Simple.
Yes; our government needs to sit up. Yes; a number of Nigerians need to be apprehended for these despicable acts they commit daily.
But what's wrong is simply that - wrong. Treating me like a leper when I have done nothing wrong is itself a wrong approach and that too should be condemned in totality.
