A conversation with one nice lady, and then the next day with one professional looking guy:

*playing with O2 K750i*

"so this phone is the O2 one right? The one for 259.99"
"Yes, on payg"
"Why isn't it branded, this is just like the sim free version isn't it"
"Yes, as an independant company we don't sell branded versions of phones, just phones with separate sim cards"
"So basically i'm just getting a sim free k750 cheaper with a free sim card"
"Yes, basically. Although O2 would expect you to use the sim card that comes with the phone, seeing as they have substituted the price."
"ah cool, i'll be back next week for one! bye"
"Bye"

I didn't believe what i was hearing? It was something along the lines of independant company... something similair. I wasn't sure, but they defenitely said as a blah blah company, we don't sell branded phones.

Has anyone else come accross this? [addsig]

I bought a T630 Payg O2 phone from them a couple of weeks ago which was unbranded but I also got a V800 at the same time which was obviously Vodafone branded.

I believe the Carphone Warehouse are becoming outstanding.

Their knowledge, services, gratitude, faithfulness to Sony Ericsson etc.!

The forst phone i got on o2 contract was an Unbranded and unlocked K700i from CPW. After that i got a Nokia 7610 on o2 Online and it was branded but unlocked.
From now on I think I'm going to get my phones from places like CPW.
I'm very happy with the P900 i bought off of eBay and when my contract is up I might see what SE smartphones are available then. I won't bother with th P910i tho.

the wifes Samsung E800 is also branded but unlocked. Thats one good thing about o2's phones. the've all been unlocked (mine have)

Answer to the original question is "no", they haven't stopped selling branded phones. With a lot of PAYG-only handsets, and all Orange and some Voda and T-Mobile Pay Monthly deals, the handsets are still locked and branded. But Carphone often have agreements with the networks to sell unbranded stock in certain situations (usually where stock is low or slow) hence the sim-free K750i on O2.
