Rather long post, sorry about that, but this issue is keeping me off my workload rather frequently lately and boss isn't happy

I have been facing this very disturbing bug since updating to R2AE033 and noone but me seems to be able to duplicate it here on Esato and the central SE service centres in my country by the looks of it (have posted several times regarding this, got no feedback at all from anyone, kinda feel alone around here nowadays). Rather worrying if you ask me, that probably means one of three things...

1. Noone really noticed the seriousness of the bug
2. Noone understands the procedure that needs to be followed to replicate the crash
3. Noone gives a damn...

Now, which one is it?

And now, without further adieu..I present you...the problem, thank you very much.

Just a FYI, u may need QT to view that clip

Clip shows 2 attempts towards replicating the bug...
Step-by-step guide.

1.Press joystick down to access phonebook
2. entering first letter
3. Second letter then take some time
4. joystick down again
5. third letter

=> Nothing's happening which is what you'd expect

BUT

I have another go at it...so let's have it

1. Joystick down to access phonebook
2. first letter
3. second letter then quickly
4. joystick down to enter next letter
5. touch the next key on the keypad and the phone goes POOF!!

see? EASYYYYYYYYYYYY

Now, this also works if you master reset the phone, have no contacts at all and repeat a somewhat same procedure, along the lines of

1. down the joystick to access phonebook,
2. press "A" for instance
3. quickly down the joystick
4. press "A" again
5. POOF

, so no, it's not my damaged phonebook, I know that for sure and yes I have reflashed to the bloody R2AE033 just the other day...

One thing to bear in mind. The device refuses to sync with my mac properly after every crash..It gives out the following errors in iSync's log..

"20:47:24 Error Conduit RTouris K700i generated an internal error NSInvalidArgumentException (*** -[NSCFDate firstName]: selector not recognized): can't get the sync mode.

20:47:24 Error Can't get sync mode for provider RTouris K700i, data class contacts"

WtH?

Btw, in case noone noticed either one can use the joystick (move it downwards to be exact) whilst either typing an sms or performing a search query in the phonebook to advance to the cursor onto the next position for text entry...this being the culprit that causes TOTAL CHAOS in this instance.

Regards,
D-.

I've got issues with R2AE033 too. just doesnt sync with my Mac (running Tiger). Always shows as device full. even though i tried addding only 490 contacts. The memory capacity is upto 510. Wonder why it would show as device full no mater how many contacts i add to it.

Also the contacts where i have only first names - it replaces the last name with a -, which moves all thosee contacts to the end of the phonebook.

very odd. i'm gonna try and upgrade to R2T or something that the service centre in mumbai told me about.

hope it solves the issue.

Me too got my mobile frozen while testing the quick double A then joy down then A!

Mine was properly reflashed in a SE center one month ago (R2AE) after a bad SEUS update.

I doubt it's a single fault: it's definitely a R2xx firmware bug!

..waiting for R3xx O:)

Despite of that, the further sync with Windows and BT Widcomm drivers went flawlessy...

Tried on an oldy R2AA and it does NOT present the issue!

AFAIK all begun with the R2AE and its "deletable multi-char search" code...
Hope you've undestrood what I mean..

Would be interesting to know if the R2AE Asian version (without deletable Multi-char search) is affected...

Sigh...I'm partly glad that it's not just me suffering from this one, however I feel guttered that they didn't fixing it 6 months (R2AL/AT) after the initial release of R2AE033...this is pathetic, someone please send them an e-mail or something...How do they justify all the money that goes towards QA, it's beyond me...

I'm aware of the fact that R2AA doesn't suffer from it though, just forgot to post it in my original post...At least some versions of R2AA that is...

Just tried it on my K700 with R2AE firmware and it happened just like in the video.

Doesn't happen on my S700 though with the latest R3M firmware!
