Torbay is where I live. Lingham Crescent is just up the road from where I grew up; I used to deliver pamphlets there as a kid. Glamorgan Dr is where I lived in 2005/6. I'll see if I can check out the damage.

Looks pretty bad carkitter. Do you take back your words now?
BTW: I signed up to that Vodafone Voice thing, but the whole website seems pretty dead to me.

Well I'm not happy that someone else is watching thier home slide down the hill. But it is a suburb built on hills formed by a Volcanic field and there are some recent houses just up the road from those affected which are on steeper slopes, which we've all been waiting to see if they'd end up in the valley. The area affected was developed about 25 years ago and I wouldn't have thought it was an 'accident waiting to happen' as has been mentioned in the media this morning. I used to visit a childhood friend in one of the affected houses and my mother knows a former owner of another of the cordoned off houses above the slip.
I drove past it this morning but couldn't see anything obvious.
How is it in your area? I hear Sefton in North Canterbury has been hit hard.

apparently levin which is an hour or less away from palmy got hit really bad, but we havent seen anything substansial! Wind was strong yesterday, but nothing that extreme.
Had a play with the new iphone 3g today. Nothing special. Camera is a joke! Although i must admit, the screen is great. Not a fan of the touchscreen however, not as responsive as i had thought. What if you were in a hurry? for the price you pay, id rather have my N82. |

Yeah well the storm seemed to bypass Christchurch. The worst we got was light rain for several hours so there's a bit of light flooding in some areas.
I'm disappointed. I was looking forward to a good storm. Apparently places like Woodend which is maybe 20 minutes out of Christchurch got hit pretty bad though, so its kinda weird.
@soane28: I agree, I tried an iPhone in release week at a Vodafone store and I couldn't see anything spectacular about it, other than the larger screen. I think SE's A200 platform looks better. Haha.

Thats what I was hoping for. For some reason I love thunder storms lol.
Haha, I'm thinking about getting a C902 now too. I've been reading reviews and stuff and I've decided I like it more than the C702 which I was originally looking at. I think the red C902 looks great, so it may just be my next phone!

I liked the iPhone!
Granted there are no camera adjustments, but Masseur's iPhone photos have come out very well, certainly as good as V640i/W910 images at first glance.
I agree the price is too high especially when compared to the N82, but considering I'm studying full-time now and have access to a free Wifi hotspot all day, an 'always on' portable wifi connection with 3.5" screen and touch UI sounds too good to be true. It would certainly be useful and no other phone I can think of can match it in this respect.
My V640i is getting a real workout while at Uni, recieving emails, reminding me of my classes, storing notes on which text books to buy, connecting via HSDPA at 1.5Mbps, sending txt message from my laptop via BT connection using MPE, and even a few phone calls... phew!
It can also do a good impersonation of a USB flash drive (when used with a USB cable) and I'm looking to start using it with podcasts soon too.

Because of the number of people getting the W980 and posting in the W980 thread, I thought I'd check out SE dot co dot nz and ended up calling thier toll free number to ask about W980 availability.
"Have you clicked on the link to be notified when a Coming Soon phone is released?" the Customer Service Rep asked.
"Yes, I also clicked on that to be informed of the arrival of the K850i and nothing happened."
"That's odd, we'll look into that."
"So when's the W980 arriving?"
"It still depends on Vodafone acceptance and we expect it near the end of the year."
I said "It's already popping up on TradeMe at reasonable prices", to which they replied "We don't recommend buying from unofficial sources."
"But what choice do I have?" I said. "Vodafone supplied the Apple iPhone in NZ before anywhere else in the world. How come a newcomer like Apple seemingly has more clout than SE who have been supplying VodafoneNZ with phones since 2001?"
"Ummm, ah..."
"And how about the X1, when is that arriving?"
"At this stage it looks like early 2009."
"So I just have to wait 'til VodafoneNZ is good and ready?"
"Well..."
"So will SE phones be available on Telecom when they go GSM?"
"I can't say..."
"And will the rumoured third network NZ Communications be taking up SE phones?
"I don't know of NZ Communications."
This is the gist of the conversation, not quite word for word quotes but still it seems SE New Zealand have no plans to rise above thier current 3% market share. Sad.

Hahaha! As soon as I read the first part of that conversation, I knew how the rest would pan out. It's always the same, and I simply wouldn't bother because they seem to be either ill-informed or they actually just know nothing.
Get one off trademe or from an importer mate. Seems like the best and cheapest bet.

very typical response! And they are supposed 2 be helpful! You probably know more about their company than they do! I would go for one on trademe. They r genuine have bought k750 k800 n95 and n82 all brand new as if u went down 2 the vodafone shop. Just look for the 1 year warranty traders and you should be covered. |

I still would never buy a phone from Vodafone. They make all that money from you and sit there thinkin "Yea, well without us you couldnt text ya mates. We dont owe you sh1T". Plain old rude if you ask me. What do they give you for you spending $80+ per month with them? Nothing at all. Until they learn to play nicely, F*** EM! Im gonna try dig around some old associates and find the Free Data access point again. Then download Gbs while saluting them with my 3rd finger.
