P800 isnt working with SMS ( |

Hey everyone,
I recently got a P800 connected to Cingular here in California. I know that the P800 that my friend gave me is an unlocked phone.
I can receive SMS's just fine, but when I want to send SMS's the phone tells me "service center address has not been set, go to messaging acounts to set it up, SMS tab".
Anyway, when I go there, I see nothing but a grayed out tab, but MMS isnt grayed out...which is weird.
I tried scouring the posts here on esato and I noticed that I had to do a master reset and restore...WHICH I DID! It's still not working!
Anyone here know what I can do so that my phone works for sending out SMS's? Again, I have a P800 and Im with Cingular Wireless in the US.
Thanks so much for your help! |

I'm afraid that you need to do a master reset.
Look at older threads on the same subjec:
SMS option is Grey
P800 cannot send sms

BUT did u see if it worked simply after the reset? If u restored the phone from a backup made when the phone already had this problem then u will have put the problem back again, assuming the problem is in the phone.
It could be the SIM. Is it a brand new SIM card? If so it sometimes takes a while before your Network activates everything on it e.g. SMS

Yeah, it's a new SIM. I don't see why it can't work
It's really pissing me off, I wish I can make this work.
Anyone else with ideas? |

Call cs and ask them for the sms service centre number in your area

The prob is most likely with the SIM then, contact the Network as already suggested & see if they need to activate it etc.

I just got back from Cingular, the bastards there don't even know what a p800 is. How sad.
Anyway... I even tried taking out the SIM card in front of the Cingular rep and put it in another phone and sent out an SMS...it worked like a charm.
Is there a super-master-armageddon-reset I can pull on this phone?
Please...SOMEONE!! It's impossible that this phone can't work with SMS on this network.

Look m8, i had the exact same problem.
Mine was that i was messing with the files at my phone, wanted to free some space, so i delted some files at the system\mail folder, BAD IDEA, my SMS control panel tab was "disabled" cant even click it.
So i searched in here and found our that i had to reformat the entire phone.
hopefully for me, i did a backup taht was 3 days old, so i didnt lost anything.
What i guess you need to do is:
1.- make a sync to transfer all your contacts (this is you DO mind lossing them)
2.- with the flip closed: jog up, *, jog down, jog down, *, jog down, *, jog down, *, select "format internal disk
and your done, the sms will be "activated" and you can now send sms. |

i thought cingular ran on the 850-mhz range and the p800 is a tri-band which wouldn't make it compatable with cingulars network?
correct me if im wrong.... |

Cingular runs on both 850 and 1900 and most areas have both. That means that P800 is compatible, but may not get excellent reception compared to a phone that has the 850 band. His ability to make and receive calls as well as receive SMS is proof that the phone is compatible.
There is entirely too much speculation over the 850 issue. People just assume that no phone will work, the entire purpose of a Tri or Quad-band phone is to ensure compatibility. |

well i am currently with the att-wireless contract and they are trying to make me switch over to cingular. but i love my p800 so i asked them if my phone would lose reception if i were to switch to cingular and they (att-wireless/cingular) told me that i would probably need to get a new phone... shows how much those tech reps know. im stilll not sure if i should switch over to cingular or not.... |

There are plenty of people on this forum with unlocked Tri-band (900,1800,1900) phones that use Cingular. They are just trying to scare you into buying a new phone that they *officially* support.
I myself use Cingular, but I played it safe and bought a P910a |

@armodrummer
Please let us know if the format worked.
I would have suggested both a master reset and formating the internal memory as well, but you may also want to consider trying to change the firmware if the format does not work.
