Hi there, it seems that everytime SE releases new phones, they invent new letters. I do not understand all that. They had the T-Series for a long time, that means telephone, doesnt'it? P = Palm? But what is K? J and S? and now W? K700 is higher than K600, although the K600 has UMTS? And so on.....can anybody tell me the logic behind it? |

there doesnt have to be any logic in how they want name their models....just because they number a certain model lower than another model it doesnt mean anything
fact is we'll never really know what the letters stand for if anything at all unless it comes straight from the horses mouth

They do it because they want FRESH new marketing strategies.
If you had the T610, then T630, T650, T670, T690, T690ii etc. people associate them too much.
I.e. the K700i is the supposed T650. But if it was called the T650 people would think it is the same phone with few extras. They would also expect the design to be similair.
The new letters are a way of expressing fresh new styles and technology changes for Sony Ericsson!

Not all letters must stand for something.
The K-Series has pretty much just replaced T-Series
P can be PDA
S can be Swivel
W is Walkman
Z are all flips
J appears to be a new young, fashion line
F & V are Vodaphone specific.

maybe my answer will be abstract but i can see some logic there..
i think they mainly compare phones to letters
K phones - maybe its main thinking was two ways of working with phones, where K is best letter to enforce duality thinking (K has two directions sticks, one stick is going up and one for down). One side a photo, another side its a phone
S phones - you must twist to transform phone, you can see similarity to letter S,
Z phones - these maybe more V like Z, but maybe V was chosen already but no problem. Phone design is part of Z letter, but...
Imagine people which are talking to their Z phone. The have phone at the ear and openened like V and their hand is rest of letter Z, so i think its a V phone with hand,
J phones - i dont know these phones, but i saw it somewhere in the shop , and it looks like J,... phone have a little arm on top
P phones - maybe they want to enforce many Possibilities of this phone, maybe its also because P have the most words in dictionary , but also P phones have a keyboard on his bottom side, and yes, i can see similarity in this to letter P (when you turn it up side down)
W phone - yes this must be walkman, but i can see similarity in the letter also . If you turn letter up side down, i can see legs of two people walking , by me opinion it should enforce thinking of walking with phone
T610 phone - i dont know if i can explain this in english but for me its very attractive design. I think, phone attractivness is made by their elegance, terse, smooth for me its like soldiers standing in the row, or students with same clothes standing in the row... It is called "German Curtness" in our country.
But maybe i am mistaken and in the past time they didnt realized they will have such many phones . I think T type contains the most of phones models... maybe it was only for T like Telephony.
...
Do not blame me for these ideas, maybe i am only ready to hospital . But this explaining can be infinite for Sony Ercisson phones. Every human can feel it another way, so please write your opinions. I am mistaken in my opinions somewhere for sure, so bring your ideas to this topic, i will be glad to read it... and think about it...

Letters that ericsson used previously together mean A-R-T. I saw that in some press release long ago. I don't know bout new letters, maybe J is for junk :-]

It's something every single manufacturer does in the world. It's their way of identifying their products and no consumer actually knows what they mean. I sell electrical products as a job and I know so many different model numbers but they're irrelevant and don't have any deep meaning but I can tell you exactly who the manufacturer is and the type of product it is through learning through selling them.
For example, if someone comes in to the shop and wants a WF000. Straight away I know it's Hotpoint washing machine but it has absolutely no meaning. It's just a unique product key manufacturers use to identify their products. |
