by the way they say it will be on stores really soon: Q2 2005!

some quotes of Hiroshi Nakaizumi, design chief in Sony Ericsson:

"the era of bulky 3g phones is gone (...) the k600 wants to be a highly desirable modern and at the same time classic phone. it is a fascinating combination of design and features (...) we think the k600 is going to be a true symbol. it has such an appeal that we expect it to be very popular in the worldwide 3g evolution"

Sony Ericsson gives mass appeal to 3G with the stunning K600
14 February 2005

3GSM World Congress Cannes, France - The K600 3G UMTS handset launched from Sony Ericsson today is a groundbreaker in design, performance and functionality. In a device that is the same size and weight as existing 2G handsets, the K600 delivers the full performance and possibilities of 3G networks, including high quality video telephony, a 1.3 MegaPixel camera and fast download of compelling mobile content. With this phone, Sony Ericsson has moved the boundaries of phone design a stage further and delivered a real classic – a sleek, durable, lightweight phone that will appeal to a very wide audience.

“The age of bulky 3G handsets is over,” says Hiroshi Nakaizumi, Head of Design of Sony Ericsson. “The K600 is destined to become a modern classic and a phone that is highly desirable. It’s a peerless combination of stunning design and up to the minute performance, enabling consumers to get the best out of the new 3G services and applications.”

The K600 has sleek good looks and an aluminium feel and is easy to use and navigate around. Sony Ericsson’s latest intuitive dual front camera/phone design makes the handset vertical when it’s a phone, and horizontal when it’s a camera, and the fully featured 1.3 MegaPixel camera includes an active lens cover for swift activation and extra protection. For consumers getting used to the gripping idea of video telephony, handling video calls is done in just a few clicks with the use of the direct video telephony button. The world of applications the phone delivers, from exciting mobile content to video calling and personal creativity, are always crisp and clear with the large - 1.8 inch – 262.000 colour TFT screen.

The K600 is fully featured with a suite of business applications that handle personal information management and PC-synchronisation via USB, making it the ideal executive work tool, providing business efficiency with high speed access.

Mobile operators are delivering more content at faster delivery rates on the 3G UMTS network, and the K600 effortlessly handles the latest 3D games and colour animations. To give consumers a taste of the level of quality entertainment delivered, Vijay Singh Pro Golf 2005 in 3D from Gameloft*is preloaded in the phone. In the true to life golf game, players take on the role of a famous golfer, and play on the most spectacular 18-hole golf courses around the world. Further levels of this game and a host of others are available for download from operator portals or Sony Ericsson’s Fun & Downloads portal directly to the phone.

High quality audio coupled with an FM radio and the ability to import full track music downloads direct to the phone make the K600 a quality music player and ideal companion for travelling, the gym or simply relaxing. For consumers keen to exercise their creative muscle, a host of personal creativity tools allows them to personalise ringtones, wallpapers, still shots and video footage in new, inspiring ways.

“We are predicting the K600 to be iconic,” concludes Hiroshi Nakaizumi. “It has such wide appeal that we fully expect it to be a trendsetter in the uptake of 3G around the globe.”

The K600 will be commercially available in Q3 2005

They have really reinvented the 3G handset. This even beats any Japanese handset I know of. It makes those bulky 3G handsets look ridiculous.

the SE really caught us and the mr out on this one. Pretty good work from SE keeping it under wraps, the k600 is a name i cannot grasp. May it would be a dual/tri band umts like z1010, no mem slot either, usb port, mem might be same as K700 or bigger. (Its after all a 3g phone, where do you keep the stuff you download?)

Ok I have been thinking about this for an hour or so and frankly I am dissapointed. I really would have liked to see a bigger screen, especially since its 3g. who want to watch video streaming etc while squinting? I am pleased to see the switch to mini USB and the styling is growing on me each time I look at it
