Sony Ericsson to unveil 2005 strategy at 3GSM World Congress, Cannes
08 February 2005
Having led the way in establishing the true camera phone category during 2004, Sony Ericsson’s new focus for 2005 will be music. Details of the new 2005 entertainment and imaging led strategy will be unveiled at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, starting next week. The company is also nominated for an award for one of its 2004 success products.
As part of Sony Ericsson’s expanded presence at the 3GSM Congress over previous years, for the first time delegates will be able to try out award nominated phones and new products in an “experience zone”. This is located at a dedicated, 630 sq m pavilion at Gray D´Albion Beach on the Croisette, adjacent to the 3GSM Congress centre. Miles Flint, President of Sony Ericsson since June 2004 will also give a personal ‘Fireside chat’ interview on Wednesday 16 on the topic of “Driving Value for the Wireless Services of Today & Tomorrow”.
“Having established a profitable base and a reputation for quality, innovation and design in 2004, this year will see us expand our product portfolio and challenge the market once again with new thinking and stunning designs” said Miles Flint. “3G will also become increasingly important as the year progresses” he continued, “although 3G sales amounted to less than 5 percent of the overall market in 2004, we expect this segment to come close to 10 percent of overall volumes during the year with further rapid expansion in 2006.”
The Sony Ericsson Experience Zone in Cannes will also host a press briefing on the evening of February 14 and a cocktail reception afterwards. At the briefing, Miles Flint and other top executives will outline the company’s strategy for 2005, how the company is looking to expand its product range and also make new announcements on how consumers will be offered a new experience with their handsets in the same way that Sony Ericsson led the way in establishing the true camera phone category.
Among the handsets on display will be the V800 for Vodafone, nominated for an award as “Best 3G Handset” by the GSM Association; and also the popular K700, S700 and P910. In 2004, the T610 won the prestigious award for “Best handset, terminal or device” during the GSM Association’s Awards evening at the 3GSM World Congress.

Nice info....suppose it's only natural for to put a lot of focus on 3g. Not that I know a lot about the subject, but it seems that at some point most of us will be using it.
The V800 has put in a nice position considering it's their first 3g handset and it's nomination for best 3g handset.

Lets hope there will be something new as well as the oldies.
@marlonski
I think that the Z1010 was first 3G handset not the V800.

"sounds" great
does this mean that we will see a HDD phone ?
does this mean that we will see a phone that supports UMD's
does this mean that we will finallly see a phone that doesn't support sony's expensive memory sticks ?

Excellent news.
More stunningly designed handsets and if the emphasis for 2005 is on music - "Having led the way in establishing the true camera phone category during 2004, Sony Ericsson’s new focus for 2005 will be music", we can expect more convergence handsets.
New handsets with expandable memory and with Sony's Music portfolio this will be brilliant.

Looks like we are going to see more MP3/Atrac3 network Walkman
integrated into the handsets. If SE do to Music Phones what they have done to Camera Phones then the results should be quite interesting to say the least.

If their new focus is now going to be on music, will we see some higher end phones without a camera (or see at least one)? I'm sure that there's a market for it as a lot of workplaces do not allow a camera phone anymore. |

Maybe they're fairly happy with the way camera technology is progressing and therefore want to focus on the music side of things, which is becoming a massive market from a download point of view.
Legal music downloads are becoming such a massive market today, outselling cd's, with the billboard chart including them within the top 100, and a UK top 20 download chart things are moving fast (can't remember the exact figure but in excess of 200,000 downloads last year in the uk i think) they probably see a market for their mobile devices to sit in and increase their profitability by jumping on the bandwagon sooner rather than later.
With net access the mobile device is already there, increased media support, memory, faster, cheap downloads will perhaps encourage a big surge in digital music on mobile devices.
Can't wait to plug mine staight into my hifi

I suppose with soooo many members here at Esato, you can be sure that there's pretty much always someone thinking on the same lines or posting a similar thread as yaself
The search is great, but even that can be a little time consuming from to trawl trough. With more than 1000000 posts you can be sure there are plenty covering most topics.
