Siemens mobile arm for sale or closure |

Siemens will close its mobile handset division unless it can find a last minute buyer, according to the Sunday Telegraph.
Siemens is the fourth largest handset maker by market share it has struggled to make a profit. In the fourth quarter of 2004 the mobile division lost €140m.
The paper reports a final decision will be announced at the Siemens annual general meeting on 27 January.
A spokesman for Siemens declined to comment on the report but confirmed to the Scotsman newspaper that the division's future was under review by chief executive Heinrich von Pierer and that an announcement will be made at the annual meeting.
Von Pierer told Bloomberg: "Either the situation has to be fixed or we have to find a partner for cooperation. We have to fix, close or sell.".
NEC denied it is interested in buying the division. Chinese manufacturer Ningbo Bird also denied interest.

they aren't sure yet.
they can sell it, close it or restructure everything over.
i've heard from sources that if siemens would be sold then they'll probably go to Arima, sagem or an asian company

as for the announcement on their final decision on the 27th, it won't happen. it's too soon to decide according to Heinrich von Pierer, for now, the options remain the same: restructure, sell, cooperate or close. for now, the fight goes on...75-series is on its way.

the chairman also hinted a rule out of a complete closure:
"Closing it would destroy a lot of value. The Siemens brand alone is extremely valuable," the chairman said.

that is so untrue.
don't hate nokia just for the sake of hating them. they wouldn't be #1 if they're not doing anything right.
anyway, i like siemens phones too. so it would really be a bad idea to kill the brandname/image.

Indiandawg's submisson is definitely incorrect. And there's really no point going into another round of debate over Nokia. I would feel something was missing in the mobile world should Siemens simply cease to exist. I really would.
