Modifying k700 Handsfree/Radio. |

Hi guys, i just had one of those weird ideas...
Does anyone know if the radio would work on the k700 if you were just to plug in the connector, and cut the cable from the connector to the earphones????
I already have a hbh600, so i dont really need a handsfree, and i never use the radio with the earphones, just in speaker mode. Plus i find it really annoying to carry the earphones around with me hense the cables tangle up oh so easily, specially when i dont even want all those cables...
I would be grateful if you could post your thoughts, if anyones allready tried this, or if anyone has a spare/broken (preferably broken ) handsfree to experiment on.
Thanks for listening (reading) lol
Cheers

I could encourage you to try it, butwont the reception of radio become worse? It might not work, but it should. |

the manual states that the reason the headset has to be plugged in is because the cable is used as an aerial.
for this reason, what you want to do probably would work but reception would probably not be good

well the problem is the cable IS the FM antenna.... so I guess if you left the cable dangle it would work but i don't know... |

Thats my major dilemna... my guess is that the antenna part is in the connector, not in the cable that goes to the earphones... I think im going to have to leave my experiment on standby until i can get hold of another SE handsfree

@govigov, I doubt an ericsson cable would work cause it's not designed to act as a reciever

It's quite likely that the earphone wire is also used as the antenna. You could try to work out which wire is used as the aerial, cut the rest of them, and attach this wire to the side of your phone (no tangled wires)
Have a look at some of the photo's on my site, they can be quite good (no adult content!) |

All phones whit radios have aerials in the phones cables. |

Reception would probably be dreadfull sans cable as when i listen to mine i have to aim my cables so i can get a clear signal.

If you plug in a common cheap 3rd party headset youŽll see the radio will work
But...itŽll work ok only if it has cable...if you cut the cable and leva only the conector, the radio will work but the reception will be very bad - because the cable IS really the antena...but any headset will do |

I think if you cut the cable from the connector it is like opening the circuit in the connector and your phone will simply see it as an open circuit and will treat it like nothing is plugged in.
It will not work because the phone's way of checking if something is plugged in is not the physical connector but the impedance of the circuit that is plugged in - in this case the impedance of the coil of the earphones (32 ohms, I think).
To make it work after cutting the cable you have to make a dummy circuit that the phone can detect like putting a 32-ohm resistor in place of the earphones. This of course only enables you to turn on the FM radio but doesn't mean that it replaces the antenna functionality of the cable. An antenna is most effective if more of it's surface is exposed to the radio signal and a very tiny resistor obviously has a very small surface area which makes it a very bad antenna. I think all you will hear is "shshshshshshshshshshsh"
resistance is futile. |

For those who don't know "impedence" is a materials opposition to the flow of electrical current, which is measured in ohms....
