I bought a Belkin USB Bluetooth dongle a fortnight ago, set it up on my home pc (XP Pro SP1) and everything was fine. I could do file transfers and remote control... everything I wanted. I've just set it up on my pc at uni though (XP Pro SP2), and this is a different story.

At first it just wouldn't work. "Hmm", I think, "That ain't right". A quick look on the Belkin website sorted this out, though. I could use Belkin's supplied Bluetooth software and copy stuff from my pc to my phone to my pc, and I was happy. But when I tried to use the remore control, it was a different story. Every time it says "Bluetooth connection failed. Retry?". Obviously, retrying solves NOTHING. "Damn you, phone!" I say, but unsurprisingly this doesn't help matters either.

OK, let's look at it logically. I pressed "More" on the remote control screen, and it started searching for devices. "Great, I can just select my pc..". WRONG. It doesn't pick up my pc. Annoyingly, it picks up my home pc, which is 180 miles away, but not this one. If I'd wanted to control my home pc via bluetooth this would be great, except I don't, so it isn't.

My uni pc is currently the only one listed in "My Devices", and I can transfer files and stuff fine, but as far as remote control is concerned it Does. Not. Exist.

So basically, how can I get it to work? Do I have to give it permission to do something on the pc side of things, do I have to do something else I haven't thought of, or am I just destined to live a remote-control-free university life, having to actually get of my bed to change tracks in Winamp?

Help shall be greatly appreciated

This may be really obvious to you, but I'm completely stuck, so please be a dear and help

Did Yout tried first to pair your PC and phone using SP2 bluetooth software (B icon on taskbar, fin new devices)? I think you don't need additional software to use BT in SP2

Sony Ericsson, remind W900i is your phone. Buggy phone. Then give us new FW version!

The native XP Bluetooth software didn't seem to like me. Never found my device. Then again, I was trying harder to get the Belkin stuff working than the XP. The pc and phone are paired and everything, my phone just doesn't pick up the pc in "select device" for remote control.

I had a similar problem. What I did was this:

Connectivity > Bluetooth > Remote control > More > Select device

My home computer was already in the list. It searched and found my work computer. Then chose the work computer I wanted to control. Bingo!

I'm using a Mac, so it may not work like that for Windows users...

That's what I tried though. It seemed logical that it would work, but it didn't even find my pc. Grrr.
