T-Mobile Deutschland becomes Europe’s first mobile operator to offer multimedia cellphone with two megapixel camera.

The Sharp TM200, T-Mobile Deutschland is now the first European mobile operator to offer a cellphone with an integrated two megapixel camera and autofocus. The compact multimedia phone has the same picture quality as many modern digital cameras as a result.

What about the Sharp V902 offerd by Vodafone. This is also a 2 M pixel camera with optical zoom and autofocus.

So, is T-mobile the first to offer this type of device?

I don't mind external aerials too much - they seem to offer better reception imho.

How long before this phone is available in other markets outside of Germany? And will it only be available on T-Mobile a la GX10/20/30 on Voda?

Nice phone, it adds weight to the argument that this type of camera phone could sound the death knell of the budget digital camera.

It not the first to have optical zoom, the Japanese have one by Sharp that has an optical zoom, I'm guessing the auto focus will mean it will go into macro mode when you put the camera near the object you want to take a picture of.

@future - Put your hand close to your face and look at it. It is clear but the objects in the distance become blurred ie they are out of focus but your hand is in focus.
Autofocus is the ability to automatically focus on the object in the direction of which the camera is pointing to get a sharp picture.

I think this is done using Infrared rays reflected off the object being shot.

optical zoom is mechanical, zooming is done by varying the distance between 2 (??) lens in the camera like binoculars or telescopes.

In digital zoom, the software selects a portion of the picture and enlarges it giving the effect of zooming but its may not be as clear as optical zooming.

To get back on topic, is that flash on the phone an LED light or a a real flash ?
