Another IR newbie problem |

I simply cannot get my infrared port and SE t637 phone to recognize each other.
I have:
-activted the infrared port of my dell inspiron 8500 laptop in bios
-Tried it on com1, 2, 3 and 4 all with failed results
-ive downeded that file manager program which also wont recgonize the phone
-yes the phone infrared is turned on
-i saw windows xp recognize the phone once but since then it never has and even in that time it wouldnt let me send anything to or from the phone.
-when i try to open the "my phones" folder on my desktop explorer crashes every time
-the infrared driver is working fine in device manger
-i tried uninstalling and reinstalling file manger and have had no success.
i just have run out of ideas and ive looked at many threads here before i posted this. But im asking for individual help now cause i just cannot figure this out. I appriciate any and all help you can provide for me, thanks.

Go to the controllpanel and click the icon for infrared connection, seen as as a computer. You may try to set the connection speed to 115.200 kbps, then download the driverscript from se's homepage as well. You may also reset the phone modem as well, by turning it off, take out the battery, then wait for some secunds before turning it on again. Hope you succeed.

Also the IR ports have to be lined up very good and close together. Mine work only in the 2..3cm range.

ok thanks for your help so far,
now wheni explore my phones it shows up there and three folders show up in phone memory (pictures sounds and themes)
however all folders are empty (and i have taken several pictures)
also if i try to put a theme into the theme folder i get an "error- unable to copy message and doesnt change no matter how many times i retry
edit: to further elabortate, the computer is showing the connection as existing, and that other program even asked me if i wanted to synchronize my phone time with my computer's which it did do.
however, all the folders on the phone when i viewed in explorer were empty and no transfers were going through
any advice?
