Has anyone else had trouble gettting contact pictures to display on front screen when they call?
Been in touch with Sony Ericcson UK and they couldn't get their V800 to work either and have logged it as a fault! |

welcome to Esato
as noted in my review and several discussions already, the V800 just doesn't seem to support that at the moment

The outer screen shows caller ID but NOT the picture. This feature is strangely missing!

The manual makes reference to this feature and Sony Ericsson help line were sure it was a feature too? |

I believe the manual only states caller ID (name & number) not picture ID. Perhaps confusion has arisen over this.
I do think it should have it though

You know I believe it might have been SonyEriccson's intention to have a caller id on the front, but our goodfriends at Vodafone decided that it didnt work well with there shitty software...So out it went along with mp3 ringtones and the original SE menu. (Thats just my conspiracy theory) |

there is a section in the manual titled "What is shown in the external display" and for caller id all it says is "who is calling". There is no mention of caller image or any other detail. my Motorola V3 certainly shows the caller id on the external display so it was dissapointing not to see such an obvious feature on the V800

I'm not sure Vodaphone are to blame for this one. And remember SE and Voda make the branded firmware.

Lifted str8 from the manual
"You can add a picture and personal ringtone to a phonebook contact. When that person calls, the picture is displayed (providing your subscription supports the calling line identification service) and the ringtone is played." |

Plus their UK helpline has logged it as a fault |

thats correct, it is displayed, but only on the internal screen. the text you copied doesn't mention the external screen and neither does the text I copied

this is from whitepaper... so no caller picture on external screen
External display
To provide convenient access to
different types of information, even
when the phone is closed, the
phone is equipped with an external display, placed
on the outside of the clamshell. The information in
the display is conveyed by icons and text. Typical
information that would be displayed includes:
• Signal strength
• Time and date
• Battery status
• CLI (Calling Line Identification)
• Messaging and other alerts
• Song titles
When the phone is closed, the external display can
be used as a viewfinder when the user takes a picture.
The external display measures 101 x 80 pixels and
displays 65,537 colours. For convenience, the display
has a backlight that lights up at incoming calls
and alerts, and allows a quick glance at the display
information.
It is possible to apply wallpaper, themes and
screen savers to personalize the external display. |
