in my quest for something new to play with I was looking at this yesterday.

Expansys have the i-mate SP3

but I think I prefer the i-mate SP3i

and at £299.95 I think it is great value and would go very well with my iPAQ since they are based on the same operating system.

I'm very tempted...

yep it's a good phone and many people said that the battery is excelent (you can read some opinions about this phone in Audiovox STM 5600 link, i reccomend you to read them)

And about the i-mate SP3i i found it a little better, but just a little because the joystick and some software fixes.

Improvements of i-mate SP3i (Qtek 8020) over i-mate SP3 (Qtek 8010:
- Modified camera AP to adapt to slow SD cards brands.
- Improved SD card writing issue due to slow clock speed of some SD card manufacturers.
- Updated T9 text input application.
- Improved MP3 playback from SD card.
- Updated some network operator names.
- Updated Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 for Smartphone operating system build (AKU3).
- New MMS composer: 1.5.0.16
- Enhanced user interface and integrated file browser to attach files.
- Able to receive, playback and forward video MMS but cannot capture video and send directly as the camcorder cannot support .3gp video encoding.
- Solved MMS issue sent from SingTel network.
- Solved MMS issue sent from Nokia 6230 phone.
- Launch camera function added.
- GPRS will automatically disconnect after sending and receiving MMS.
- Improved standby time. The amount of improvement is dependant on network conditions, SIM card and usage pattern. Talk time and Bluetooth are not affected.
- Updated a number of network operator names.
- Added Bluetooth serial port support.
- Added ClearType font enhancement.
- Improved T9 text input performance.
- Improved USSD and Cell Broadcast performance.
- Clearer audio quality.

I noticed that expansys say SP3i is the UK version but that just means its the version with 900/1800/1900 Mhz rather than the version with 850/1800/1900 Mhz as far as I can tell from the i-mate web site

therefore in Romania there should be no problem using it as you use 900 and 1800 Mhz don't you? and 850 Mhz is only for US as far as I know

Thanx for the info masseur
I didn't know that UK operate with GSM 900/1800/1900 Mhz

Romania has 4 mobile operators:
- 2 operators on GSM 900
- 1 operator on GSM 1800
- 1 operator on CDMA 450

I don't think there are any 1900Mhz operators in UK but 900 and 1800 are good enough

still deciding about this phone and looking at what else is around

Those 2 smartphones are the smallest ones in the world. I don't think you'll find something better and with this size & this price..

The design of imate sp3i does remind me of a phone.. i think of a sleek phone from mitubishi ?

I think you woldn't regret if you buy one of this 2 phones, since they are not that expensive and have a lot of great features (extra: Windows Media Player 10)

I cannot buy from expansys or other online store (just from ebay, but there are too much scams) from my country.c

It's your decission

where did you read that it has windows media player 10?

even my one month old iPAQ hx4700 with Windows Mobile 2003 second edition doesn't have that as WMP10 for windows mobile hasn't long been available and we're still waiting for a firmware update to include that

...and the opinions from here

Audiovox SMT5600 has WMP10 so i guess the other HTC Typhoon phones have also WMP10 (i'm not 100% sure, if this is not true sorry)

iMate brings Media Player 10 updates (~the new nr.4)
Quote:

"Thank you for writing in. Regarding your query, the Windows Media
Player10 release for the i-mate SP3 is scheduled for the month OF

It seems that imate sp3/i doesnt have WMP10 by default ... but there will be an update..

Anybody know if the SP3/sp3i support MP3 and/or WMA files as ringtones, or are they just MIDI?

@simon211175 i've read somewhere that sp3/sp3i support MP3/WMA/WAV/MIDI because of Windows 2003 SE (second edition)

DSF: its does say it supports

Audio: Crisp audio playback via WAV/WMA/AMR/AAC/MP3 full stereo player, hands-free

which is to be expected but I can find no mention of which, if any, of these can be used as ringtones which is what simon211175 is asking. Its not even mentioned in the techincal specs you can download on the imate web site
