Wow, Carphone Warehouse are getting the touchscreen S60 Nokia 5530XM this week, and it's just 129.95 (approx R1700) on PAYG!!

http://www.carphonewarehouse.[....]-XPRESSMUSIC/PPAY#dealListTabs

No GPS or even 3G, although Wi-Fi, EDGE etc are there; but dang, S60 doesn't come much cheaper...

ARM 11 434 MHz processor, Carl Zeiss optics and the updated 3.2mp cam, 1000 mAh(BL-4U) battery, etc. Hmm...

@da wanqa: That's pretty cheap. I would probably make a bite at it but what's the reasoning for the phone? Touchscreens are all nice but did the cost-cutting have 2 be at the expense of 3G?
Tomorrow its back to work again after sick.

@ da brixsta:
With such competitive pricing, I reckon it'll sell in shitloads.

The 5800XM has been a phenomenal success story. Now here's a smaller n' simplified (and notably cheaper) mid-range S60 touchscreen device that's going to appeal to a very wide audience that isn't arsed with a battery-draining 3G facility, despite the obvious benefits of it.

Methinks Nokia have been damn smart here. The big focus on the XpressMusic (think target audience again)functionality and the oh-so-popular touchscreen interface combo, plus access to smartphone apps can only make the S60 cause even more accessible and popular, amongst a younger (and perhaps cash-conscious) audience too.

How many teens (or average Joe Public) does one see using 3G? Not many that I've seen here, that's for sure.
Yes, for ardent geekstas or those who might use video calling, a lotta quick(er) data streaming etc, but I guess Nokia have had a good look at the handset's targeted audience and then decided where to cut cost corners to make it so financially appealing, yet perhaps still tempt with S60 apps etc.

Perhaps all the advertising here on TV etc w.r.t. Apple's Appstore and what app's are out there for the iPhone has made Joe Public far more 'app-conscious', and through this made more aware of what S60 can all offer. (Perhaps all the iPhone app-hype and media exposure has been a silver lining for S60, to some extent)?

How many people do you see/know that have the latest Nokia but haven't even changed the standard bloody Nokia ringtone, or have a single S60 app on their smartphone? How many are just content to brag that they have the latest flagship Nokia or whatever, and just make calls or sms with it?(and the occasional happy snap).

Then there's the 'competition'. The 5530XM is only 30 -40 more than the touchscreen Samsung Tocco Lite or LG Cookie, which are obviously not smartphones, have extremely poor fixed-focus cam modules, no 3G either etc and obviously don't have the brand strength that Nokia enjoys. And that's the price of the phone on release. If punters can shell out the extra wonga, I can just imagine the CPW staff and others convincing said punters that it's a no-brainer decision as to which to settle for.

As regards budget touchscreen handsets, Nokia have now surely done a fair bit to pull the rug out from under the Koreans, who have enjoyed incredible global success in this market segment over the past few quarters, by offering so much more for not much more. Beating them comprehensively at their own game... let's see what Q3 and Q4 results reflect.

Oh well, that's my synopsis after a couple of Budweisers, LOL.

Ya boet; good on you.
If he's one to not respect the fairer gender properly then I would also not pour fuel on his ego by giving his N97 so much attention. Ya, you could always jack it and once you've fiddled with it, pawn it before it gets blocked.

Well that chick needs a check-up from the neck-up too if she's content with putting up with such a douchbag.

Lmao, well usually, the chick who dates a jerk usually ends up realising what's been under her nose and goes for the friend who's always been there when the jerk stood her up for a football matches, which in this case happens to be you GUCCI
Well that's just my synopsis after watching a handful of college movies.
Dang that's probably my longest post
