Hello, I want to convert mp3 files into mp4 in order to cut down the file size.Someone mentioned dbpoweramp in an old post.He managed to cut the filesize in half without significant quality loss. How did he do that? I got dbpoweramp and the powerpack but I cant find any options for mp4 files. Some thorough advice will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I use Nero Wave Editor. If you have Nero, you must than have Nero Wave Editor. It is simple, I just open mp3 song, and than 'Save As' mp4, and there it is simple as that. Phantastic quality in half size (average size of an mp4 song is 1,5mb)

maybe you only downloaded the dbpoweramp application - in my case it didn't include the encoder/decoder so you might need to download them first and install. after installing, you have to let dbpoweramp know the path to the encoder as what @vineet_d mentioned.

in addition i used mono mp3 at 64Kbps and convert them to mp4 at a quality of 60 (i don't know what that measures to) in dbpoweramp. the quality is good (not as good as the 128Kbps stereo mp3 but acceptable for me) and the size is about 40% only of the original 128Kbps stereo mp3. my k700 can now hold an average of 20 songs with this format.
resistance is futile.

you can get the mp4 codecs from the same site you got the dbpoweramp application, click here.

It's also free.

hey all,

Just thought I might point something out you might find useful... You will get better quality music if you encode straight from CD to AAC (aka MP4) rather than low quality mp3 to AAC. MP3 is not really very good, and in going from CD to MP3 to AAC you will loose more detail than going straight to AAC.

If that's not possible because you don't have the original CD's to hand, start with a high quality MP3 or AAC and then convert down to whatever size AAC you want.

Why not just use iTunes?

Yep. Just double checked it now.

Go to your iTunes preferences, importing options and choose AAC. I've just ripped a CD track straight into AAC 64kbit mono - Sounds pretty good actually. You might be able to get away with a lower bitrate, but whatever you choose it'll be better than going from CD to mp3 to AAC.

Hi.

I have dbpoweramp and Nero V5. I would like to use Nero to encode MP4's straight from CD because it seems the compression choices you get in Nero are far greater than in db. However, in the output format menu i am not given the choice of MP4. Is there a plu-in or codec i need to install to get MP4 encoding (or aac)?

Thanks
